RSPCA home visit - what should I expect?

Morning all!
Sadly we had to have our DCat put to sleep this week and we don't want to be a cat free home for long. So we've registered with the local RSPCA with a view to re-homing one of their cats.
So, this afternoon we have a 'home visit' appointment for our suitability to be assessed. What should we expect?

Don't be nervous. I only have experience of Cats' Protection visits, but it really is just a chat.

They want to see where you live more than anything, the area, busy roads etc. It's all about matching you up with the right cat.

They will need to know if you have any other pets, ages of any DC, what sort of cat you are after etc. If you had never had a cat before they would probably go into the finer details of cat ownership.

No tidying up necessary.

I have already told the DD's they ought to think about tidying their rooms before the RSPCA lady comes this afternoon, citing 'we don't want to be ruled out for untidiness'

I think a pristine house isn't great if you are about to rehome a cat. Are you hoping for a kitten or an older cat?

I should imagine that cat home visitors have pretty well seen it all so I wouldn't bother too much about hoovering the lampshades. They'll be more interested in whether you have what looks like a loving, reasonably organized home.

Any thoughts about the sort of cat you might want to give a home to?

Welll, our last cat was a female tortie who we inherited in middle-age from our neighbour when she emigrated. She was an absolute dear and very girlie.

This time we are hoping to get a male 'bruiser'. i want an adolescent cat preferably, between 1 and 2 years old. DH passed away in April and it is now just me & the 2 DD's, so we all thought we'd like some male hormones back in the household.

We have got 2 tortoises aswell, but hopefully they won't make a big impact on the RSPCA's decision?

Oh Pesto I am so sorry to hear that.

I have always had rescue cats about 2 years old. The ones that get overlooked during kitten season.

So when you pass the Home Visit you can go and have a look. Have you had a look on the website?

Thank you. We've got a certain cat in mind, coz we looked on their website first before visiting the RSPCA. But tbh to get to the cats you had to walk through the dogs, and I really felt like taking the whole lot of them home!

So we saw the cat we were interested in, but haven't met him yet. Am hoping if this visit goes well, that we may go and see him properly either later today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the encouragement, the home visit went well and we went straight over to the RSPCA afterwards. Just getting used to the new Purrfect addition to our family

Oh my word what a beautiful cat, and you have him already? What's his name, he looks so lovely.

It can all happen so quickly can't it? We called up our local rescue place one morning after eyeing up the website the night before, the next day we had a cat!

He is truly lovely, and he's called Willow

He's just getting his bearings at the moment, but I'm sure he's going to be very happy here. I can't stop smiling

What a handsome boy. He looks very much as if he's thinking about things. I reckon he'll be in charge of the house within a couple of weeks.

Has he got any 'white cat' physical issues? (Deafness etc.)

No deafness, but will need Factor 50 on the tips of his ears & nose once he's allowed out
