Neutering, convelesence time

My ginger tom is almost 5 months and at 6 months we plan to have the snip. How traumatic will this be for him, will he know (can anyone tell me that?)

How long will it take him to recover and will he need special treatment for a while, convelesense time?

All of my boys have been silly/dopey from the GA and maybe a bit sore the night of the op and then up and at 'em the next morning. Maybe I've been lucky.

We took him in at 9am, at 4.30pm we got him back. He had already charmed the vet nurses and had eaten. He got home and you wouldn't know he'd been away. No anaesthetic hiccups. It's now 1 week later and there's thunderpaws out there.

24hours later most them are 100% normal.

I had the pleasureof being present while my two boys got the snip. I live in the country so my vet asked if I could stay and help, holding scissors, cutting the thread for the stitches etc.
It is a really quick, relatively simple op. As long as you let him recover in a quiet area, he will be fine I'm sure.

We were looking forward to a couple of quiet days when our boy came home after the snip.

My two were unstoppable - livelier than ever, having been cooped up. We were told to keep them quiet and prevent them licking the wound - former was impossible, and fortunately they didn't overdo the latter!

Worst side effect was they came home and started paddling in their water bowls, sloshing water all over the kitchen floor! My theory was they'd got bored at the vet and developed this fun new game, had to put a towel down so it wasn't as much fun for them, or as lethal for us.

I've found with my boys that they seemed to be a bit stupid when they got back - kept doggedly walking around and doing eg silly jumps which they couldn't really manage. I put that down to the GA - and they've always been completely back to normal by the next morning.

My boys were fine, first one was totally normal when he came home, you wouldn't have known he'd had an op. The second one was still a bit spaced out and played with the water in his bowl (vet said it's because they are stoned, lol), the next morning he was back to his usual self.

Most cat don't even seem to notice and are running around a few hours later. You should keep him inside for at least three days though, and preferably five, to make sure the wound doesn't get dirty.
