Fly eggs in cat food

Are they harmful to the cat? The furry friend has just eaten from an infested bowl (I fell asleep after lunch).

Do I need to get him wormed?

Eww, rank.

I think the stomach acids would deal with the eggs.

EweHaveGoatToBeKiddin · 18/08/2013 19:31

Where did the eggs come from? Where they already in the food?

If it was me, I'd maybe call the vet practice for advice in the morning. But i'm a bit of a wuss and always expect the worse such as the cat turning into a giant fly

It should be fine, shyer. Flies can of course walk in all sorts of things and can sometimes carry a nasty or two on their feet when they land - but then they would be doing that all the time if they got inside (including to human food) so I don't think it's anything to get anxious about. You'll doubtless be worming him regularly in any case as well as keeping an eye on his overall health?

Shyer · 18/08/2013 21:12

Yes of course I am. He is indoor cat and is due for a worming anyway.

Good and timely then.

I would recommend dry food in the summer, the morning I found maggots in the cat food bowl has no been forgotten!
