Last Friday night my cat came in walking a bit weird he got on the sofa but looked uncomfortable, I've seen him like that before when he's eaten too much rabbit so I thought nothing more of it.
By Sunday he was still not himself and was resting alot though had moved about, was still eating and hd been out to the toilet.
Monday I took him to the vets where they examined him firstly with a series of manual tests, including holding him up and sort of swinging him about to check if his legs responded. He stayed in was sedated and xrayed.
He came home that evening, the vet showed us the X-ray which showed no spine injury and she advised rest for 3 days said he probably had fallen funny or had received a bump on the lower back. Not a car injury especially since we literally live in the middle of nowhere.
This is the problem though, he hasn't recovered and in fact is worse since visiting the vets. He can barely move his back legs and I don't think I've seen him tail move since we got back. He hasn't been to the toilet since sunday and is now leaking urine.
I realise this doesn't sound good. He is 14, until this incident he was in fine health and showed no sign of age.
Has anyone had a cat recover from this sort of thing? Is there muscle or nerve damage that only shows with time or could he have sustained damage when he was tested at the vets?
He's lying on his bed , eating small amounts of food and drink a couple of times a day but not really moving himself and leaking. There is still some response from his feet but he can't hold himself up anymore.
It's like two different cats front half is fine and all there, he's purring etc but back half is not good.
Obviously vets again on monday but I'm not too confident in them now because he is so much worse, perhaps I should have left him rest to recover naturally.
