Food going off in this heat

I am sick of throwing food out in this heat.

I usually feed my 2 cats a pouch between them, twice a day, but in this heat they are not really eating it, and within a couple of hours I can see flies eggs in it.

I seem to be throwing out loads of food, and spend my life scalding their dishes in boiling water.

Anyone else having this?

Yes. I'd just go for frequent but real small amounts - not a whole lot more than a smear on the dish but maybe with some extra water in it. Sort of small puddle of soup effect.

Cat food freezes really well if you have any small containers and a freezer with room in it by the way. Only put out small amounts and you shouldn't waste too much money.

my lot demolish thier tinned breakfast in about 60 secs flat so dosent stay in the dishes long enough and if they do by a miracle leave any the hound hoovers the cat dishes

I wish mine were like that - they prefer to graze throughout the day, but not in this heat.

I suppose it doesn't help that we have the doors open all day, so flies are getting in.

One of my cats only likes dried food so that is fine, the flies don't seem interested in that.

The fussy old cat gets a mixture of pouches & dried food, so I just give him as much of the pouch as I think he'll eat at one sitting then a bit more if he's still hungry. Then I leave out some dried food for him to graze on.

The dogs are more than happy to wolf down any leftovers. I think they like it better than dog food!

It's an absolute pain. The smell of rancid cat food is just urgh, the jelly goes manky really quickly and the cats refuse to eat it.

We're only putting down wet in the evening (have dry out all the time) and fresh food during the day, fish and chicken never last long enough for a fly to land!

Rug, I think that is a good idea - proper meat probably won't lie around for long enough - I may get some chicken thighs for them.

We always give wet food at about 10pm anyway (dry available all day) which definitely helps, we've only noticed a bit of a whiff in the morning if they've left any, not any fly eggs or anything.

I feed mine dry so avoid this problem but in the heat I have been serving up a sachet in the evening either with crushed ice or extra water in it, or cat milk. it also gets demolished. Applaws definitely has this effect.
