Getting a Siamese kitten

Hello, We are beyond excited as we are getting a female Siamese kitten in a month or so. She'll be 12 weeks and fully vaccinated. Any tips on how to look after her, e.g. how long before she can be let out? when will she need to be nuetered?

Get her neutered as soon as possible - talk to your vet.

Good luck with your kitty - she will probably be quite talkative, being a Siamese. They need quite a lot of attention!

You don't let them out until after neutering, unless you want half a dozen kittens! None of which you'll be able to rehome as no one will be good enough for you.

I am a little confused that you think you are getting a Siamese kitten - surely you mean Madame will be coming to inspect her new staff? Once you have been owned by a Siamese there is no going back ( my latest 2 girls are curled up downstairs on top of the freezer as 35 degreesC is obviously still a little cool for them). I second neutering as soon as your vet advises - a calling Siamese queen is not a noise you can ignore. Obviously get her chipped if not done by the breeder. I am very envious of a new kitten!

I agree, definitely don't let her out until she has been neutered. They tend to neuter at about six months, sometimes slightly earlier with Siamese as they are VERY loud when they call!

They love to play - my Siamese retrieves toys we throw for him . He also chews gloves and soft toys Get lots of toys for her

I'd get the neutering done as soon as you can persuade her vet to do it. Assuming she's healthy and of a weight. Siamese can mature early. (Oneago's litter brother sired a litter at just under 5 months, to his breeder's consternation.)

PS - to his breeder's apparent consternation. (And thereby hangs a tale.)

Just to warn you. She'll likely have a brown patch for a bit - the Himalayan gene acting on the shaved bit. It should go in the fullness of time.

I second, or third the advice to get her neutered ASAP.

We got our (well, my) Tonkinese (half Siamese, half Burmese) kitty neutered at six months, but I'm sure she was calling before that as she really was yeowldeling and dying to get out to her boyfriends!! I'd say she had matured at 5 mos.

Now she has a brief phantom call every now and then, but I know she's in no danger of popping kits.

If you keep her warm, her regrowth won't be too dark.

They really are so affectionate, and definitely people cats. My cat is my shadow: she follows me everywhere, is in everything im doing, and sleeps next to me.
She's very good at going to sleep when I'm not there, and running to meet me when I'm back home. (I work from home, so amn't out all day).

I only had a siamese for a short while (2 days) as she turned up in the garden. A daft neighbour had thought that 6ft garden fences were high enough to keep her in!

They are talkative - really talkative. My other cat was next to a Siamese at a cattery and didn't shut up for two weeks when he came back.

The one we had for a short while also spent the entire night running up and down the stairs. My ex-husband was worried there was something wrong with it, but I just explained "it's a siamese - they are not like normal cats".

They do love stairs. Seniorboy is up and down and up and down and.........
