The litter tray

Worried sick

We adopted a gorgeous rescue kitten 5 weeks ago, she is probably around 14 weeks old now. Over the past three weeks or so she has developed a huge lump on the right hand side of her spine. We were hoping that it was an abscess caused by one of our other cats biting her but have been to the vet and it isn't. Now waiting anxiously for the results of tissue analysis. I am worried sick. The vet wasn't reassuring at all. I am just so concerned, we have had such bad luck with our cats, in the last four years we have lost one to FIP (horrible in curable disease) and two to coyotesHmm. They will send the sample off first thing tomorrow then it will be a couple of days before the results come back. Am just praying that it is not malignant.

That's horrible. I hope it's ok. If anything happened to mine, I'd be heartbroken. Good luck!

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/07/2013 07:59

Well, 14 weeks is very young and cancers more common in older animals so let's hope it's a benign fatty lump.

I'll be thinking of you.

cozietoesie · 15/07/2013 09:07

What dreadful luck.

Fingers crossed for you and her.

tiggyhop · 15/07/2013 12:38

Thanks for all the kind words. She would be incredibly young for a cancer, it could just be a reaction to vaccination, I just wish the vet had been a bit more reassuring....

A bad couple of days for you what with the waiting. Have you got things to occupy your mind?

Are you in the States by the way?

tiggyhop · 15/07/2013 20:19

Yes, in the states, hence the coyotes...sigh. All cats on total lockdown since we lost the first one, the second got out by accident, faulty door catch, no one's fault...should hear tomorrow or Wed. Thanks!

There's usually someone here if you need to offload (subject to time zones) - let us know what the results are when you find out.

Best of luck.

ToffeeWhirl · 16/07/2013 00:55

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. The waiting must feel intolerable. I hope you hear good news from the vet asap.

Sorry, also, to see that one of your previous cats died of FIP. My first kitten has recently had to be PTS because of FIP. He was such a sweet and affectionate kitten. It's a dreadful disease Sad.

tiggyhop · 16/07/2013 04:00

So sorry to hear that, ours died just two weeks after being diagnosed, he didn't seem to suffer till the last morning when I took the kids to school and rang the vet on the way about putting him down as it was the kindest thing, when I got back from the school run he had died.Hmm

ToffeeWhirl · 16/07/2013 12:39

Oh dear, that's dreadful, tiggy. My kitten also lasted only about two weeks after diagnosis. He didn't seem too bad, then suddenly deteriorated over 24 hours and had to be PTS. He hadn't seemed too bad until then, so I completely understand how you were caught out.

I hope you hear from the vet sooner rather than later.

ToffeeWhirl · 18/07/2013 13:01

Still no news, Tiggy?

cozietoesie · 18/07/2013 13:27

Time zones I think, Toffee. I'm not sure where in the States tiggy is but it's barely breakfast time across there at the best.

ToffeeWhirl · 18/07/2013 15:50

Ah, ok, cozie. Had forgotten that. I was just remembering how hard it is to wait for the vet to ring.

tiggyhop · 19/07/2013 22:03

Thanks again, no word from vet, am going to ring now. The lump has definitely got smaller thoug, which has to be good?

cozietoesie · 19/07/2013 22:08

I think it's cause for optimism anyway. Seniorboy had a fatty lump a couple of years ago which was removed when he was having a GA dental and proved to be completely innocuous. He also had one a couple of months ago which had disappeared completely when he went to see the vet a couple of weeks back.

Fingers crossed for you.

tiggyhop · 19/07/2013 22:14

Thanks so much, I phoned, the results are back but the vet has been away so no one has looked at them, they are going to ring tomorrow...the lump is so much smaller I am really praying that it is going to be ok. You are so nice for caring!

ToffeeWhirl · 20/07/2013 09:32

How maddening that you are still waiting, tiggy. Fingers crossed here too.
