Letting inside cats out

We have 2 cats who are 4 years old. They have always been inside cats but we have a large pen in the garden that we put them in when its nice so they get fresh air.

We are wanting to start letting them out as one in particular always makes a dash for the door and I think they would enjoy exploring outside.

What's the best way of introducing them to the outside world? We are thinking of letting them out before breakfast one day so they in theory should come back but what else can we do?

the best way of doing this is yes let them out for a short while befoere breakfast as being hungry they will come back and get used to routine, this is what i do with my cats, but dont let them out if they are going doolaly to get out as being excited they may run further than they think they have and may have difficulty finding thier way back to you, if they are calm then let them out as they wont bolt, over a few weeks increase the amount of time they are allowed out till both you and cats find a happy medium
