Kitten covered in toothpaste..!

Ok, a bit worried...opening a new tube of toothpaste tonight, kitten was winding around my legs when a big shot of paste came out & landed on her head!

she went flying off round the flat in a panic (think some went in her eye Hmm) and I chasing round trying to calm her down (while not cool & calm myself, not effective tactic it turns out) and grab something to wipe her off.

We had a stand off for a while under the table so I cajoled with one hand and googled with the other - and yes,of course it's toxic, isn't everything?! (Since i got her i have been co-parenting the kitten with Google) Seems its mainly one ingredient that wasn't listed on the tube tho.

So 30 minutes later, stand off is over & after a lot of 'stroking' with a wet jay cloth, she seems to be ok. She was licking it though while I was trying to catch her but seems her normal self now, some flecks still there but otherwise ok.

I'm now wide awake, not sleepy & hoping she hasn't eaten enough to do herself any damage...she was really covered tho. Confused

Anyone heard of a death by toothpaste story?!

Kitten will be fine! If you do your research cat food is full with animal parts we can't eat!

We had a similar incident last week with shower gel last week, hard to he out for a cat who hates water but she did smell lovely in the end! Grin

Would contact vet JIC

I think she will be absolutely fine, assuming that she only managed a few licks while running to avoid you, and didn't sit down to clean off her whole coat.

Also, not sure what you googled but if the ingredient isn't shown on the tube, then it shouldn't be in there!!

Thanks for replies, she does seem ok this morning - she had quite a few good licks but definitely didn't have the majority of it, there just seemed so much of it. Looked like a drowned rat by the time I'd finished wiping her.

Did catch myself thinking she seemed a bit groggy this morning and then realised that was probably because she was still half asleep! Getting paranoid! Smile

MumnGran, I meant the really toxic ingredient google flagged up wasn't listed on my tube so that was a good thing Smile Don't think I was explaining myself well there!

Will keep an eye on her till I go to work. And will keep the bathroom door shut for a while....
