cat with diarrhea?

my usually very well trained cat has just had a diarrhea on my floor.

she is up to date on worming treatment.

what does this mean? is she poorly? it just looked like undigested food. she doesn't appear to be in pain and is happy and playful as normal.

should i take her food away? does one episode of diarrhea necessitate a trip to the vet?

I wouldn't say so...probably eaten something outside that didn't agree. Unless she's a young kitten, I'd see how she is this evening. Keep an eye on what she drinks. I don't take food away for a one off. Has she just had jabs? My young one gets the squits after his jabs.

no she's one year old and has only been with me three weeks. i only started letting her out this week and have been helicopter parenting her outside so i know she hasn't eaten anything outside. she's my PFC

can it be a random occurance for a cat to have the runs? her stool in the litter tray when we got up was perfectly normal so this is obviously her breakfast gone through her.

oh and she has access to clean water and hasn't eaten any human food.

Have you changed the brand of food?

I'd do her some cooked chicken breast for the day.

nope food hasn't changed at all.

She's almost certainly either picked up a little something from outside - in a moment of inattention on your part - or, say, something you've brought in on your shoes. Or nicked something she shouldn't have from the kitchen.

I wouldn't worry about one day's occurrence(s) - it happens. Go to the vet if it persists of course.

there were plates left in the sink last night coming to think about it. they had a bit of salad and mayonnaise on because dh didn't rinse them properly. would that have made her ill? oh i feel terrible.

A bit of warmish mayonnaise? Could be - if she's a rotten ornery thief (as most of them are.) But who knows how they get tummy upsets sometimes ?

Don't feel terrible, please. It happens - and as long as she's not got a persistent problem, all (Hah! - ALL) you have to do is clean up the mess. You said yourself that she's happy and playful so it sounds as if she's fine now.

she hasn't been since and has played for a bit and is now sleeping. Luckily she did it on laminate not carpet, nice considerate moggy :)

Hopefully it was just a one off. I did get worried though.
