Rescue Persian food problems

I have a rescue Persian, who appears to have some trouble eating from a bowl.

He has a very flat face, even for a Persian and I think this may cause him issues. He only licks his food rather than eating it. He manages to pick up dry food, so is not starving, but I like to give my cats some wet food to aid kidney function.

He loves ham, but I have to hold it above him for him to get as if it is his bowl, or the ground he can't seem to pick it up again.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can help him I would be very grateful. I wondered if raising the bowl up would help?

We hand fed our Persians treats like ham or cheese.

Do try putting a book underneath but have you tried feeding him on a side plate? All our Persians were shovelers and the dish had to be turned 180 degrees during feeding so it didn't all end up on the floor.

Ah-ha Brilliant! Not tried a side plate, that's a good thought. He has always had a straight, or straightish pet bowl, so if he's shovelling he won't be getting anywhere fast will he Grin

Do yours take hours rubbing themselves against handheld food before they take it too?

Am new to Persians, can you tell?

Try him as well on some Gourmet pate tins. They're a bit expensive but can be licked off (just dunk half a tin on a plate) so might go in more easily.

Thanks Cozie, will give the pâté a go. Thanks [smie]
