How much do your cats eat?

Am away for the weekend, friends coming over to feed cats/let them in and out etc.

Friends was shocked when I said that one tin of food does both cats per day, additionally they have dry food too (kept topped up).

Both cats are only small and I would happily give more food but they tend to eat little and often. if food isn't fresh they won't touch it.

Apparently friend's cat eats 1 tin a day to itself plus dry food.

Surely if I was under feeding them they'd let me know?

Yes,your cats will let you know if it is not enough. My (small) girl is the same. One pouch per day in 2 servings plus constant dry food..and she won't touch either if it isn't fresh. Sheba now do these mini pouches (6 for £1.50) which does a perfect single serving for her.

2 cats share one pouch per day and the rest of their food is dry. My vet wanted me to drop the wet altogether and only fees dry as meals (as opposed to letting them graze as I do) but as they're both perfect weight I ignored her advice

Mine get through a 4kg bag every 4-5 weeks. That's 2 cats though.

Seniorboy eats two pouches plus a meat treat at lunchtime and some Crunchy at supper. The Lodger used to eat a little less (despite being a younger and bigger cat) but he went outside and 'supplemented' his intake by on the hoof food and thieving.

They seem to like the variety of wet and dry food. If I only offer wet they will at some point turn their nose up and vice versa.

I do think Ginger Moron supplements his diet with next door's cat food which is left outside! Evil Cat is tiny though so I imagine she just eats here.

If they are free to graze on dry food which is constantly topped up, then they will not be underfed.

If they do not have free access to dry, then the rule of thumb was always 2/3rds of a large tin per day, over 2 feeds, for each cat.
Pouches are smaller quantities , and if exclusively pouch fed then they should be having 4 a day (its quoted on a guidelines site somewhere, but don't have time to go hunting now ....sorry)

Half a pouch and a measure of dry food (60g) across the day. Our vet has been very clear that the cat is at her perfect weight so we are quite strict with food. She seems happy enough though.

Is evil cat safe with visitors now?

Evil cat needs renaming since she returned after she went missing.

She is now Quite Pleasant with a Hint of Evil Cat . bit of a mouthful!

She is perfectly safe ish although has turned on me for no reason whatsoever a couple of times

Has also taken it upon herself to oversee all of DS's nappy changes and baths. She also, on her first day back home, joined in with a growl when the dog barked.

She is now our protector (when she feels like it )

Tangent over. So as long as they're healthy and weight is fine I'm feeding them adequately. Friend just has a greedy cat! (is twice the size of my two actually!)

I split a pouch between their two bowls and mix it in with dry food. I do this twice a day (plus odd scraps of meat when I'm cooking!)

My 2 small cats have 2 washing powder scoops of royal canin a day (I think it came with Ariel, makes a perfect food scoop!)

New cat has whiskas kitten and own brand dry food. I cant wait to switch him to dry only, only 4 days left til the pack runs out!

They also get a daily helping of dreamies and sometimes lickelix or a cat stick.

Dreamies - do they inject the equivalent of cat cocaine in them? My two go bonkers for Dreamies!

Mine have become very treat oriented as they have got older.

We have to hide the pots as they have learned how to open them.

My (small) cat eats a pouch a day, has dried food when she wants and DD feeds her from her plate.
She loves Dreamies, but moreso mushrooms, she goes mad for them.

Honestly though but Mushrooms?
If you give her one it's like she suddenly has springs in her paws, and leaps around whilst playing with, and eating the mushroom.
She loves rice too, when I'm treating her I cook her mushroom risotto.

One of mine like tomato soup and tomato sauce and I have to fight her when I have pizza.

It costs £5 a week per cat (fairly expensive food). Some days that's like one can and a bit of dry for all 3 animals, and other days it's 3 cans and lots of dry.

Evil Cat loves salt and vinegar crisps She can hear and distinguish a rustling crisp from a mile away!

One tin between two when they have free access to dry food is plenty.

I have three and they get 2 tins of good quality food between them a day (so 2/3 of a tin each a day), no dry because my older boy had a urinary blockage last year despite having the special dry food. Two are older cats so their appetites have dropped and the other is a young tom but weighs over 6kg so def not underfed. Mine love watermelon in the summer :)

Some cats need a lot of food, some need less, depends on whether they are indoor/outdoor cats, active or lazy etc.

A full size tin is bigger than a pouch though isn't it?

As for human food, mine love salt and vinegar chips, popcorn, marmite on toast and roast chicken. They don't like cheese, salmon, or other meat.

mine don't like chicken but like the juice from a roast!

I've never tried them with salmon as its something I don't eat, they're obv neglected .
