My lovely friendly young rescue cat keeps bringing in dead birds.

She has a bell on her collar but the dozy birds do not seem to be hearing her moving.

We are not used to this having had an old lazy boy cat until recently.

Any Gipson discouraging and dealing with this. Ie cleaning tips etc

Unfortunately, though, there's only so much you can do if your cat goes outside.

I think I'd also add, try not to let your cat out at dawn and dusk. Those half-light conditions are when birds seem to be most vulnerable in my experience.

You can buy bibs you put on collars around their necks, I forget what it's called but it stops puss being able to bite what's in the paws eg they can grasp a bird but the bib gets in the way of the mouth.

However most cats would be googling the cpl while you sleep if you made her wear it.

If she's a rescue due to abandonment and she's lived rough then it's probably going to be a long term habit, our rescue tortie always hunted but she was abandoned and physically abused so she had to hunt to live.

I will have a look at the bibs at her calling cpl.

She was found abandoned with 4 kittens. She is only a baby herself, but yes, she probably had to hunt

She has a cat flap so comes and goes. Might get another bell see if that helps.

I wouldn't bother with more bells, if shes out and a predator is after her bells stop her hiding as well, but also if you watch a cat hunting a mouse it stretches up high and pounces on it. The bell wont help as the cats moving to fast for it to make a difference.

Get her in an hour before it gets dark and don't let her out until after 9am. Don't forget most RTA happen early morning when people are rushing to work and at night when it's too dark for the cat to be seen. No one wants a squished cat.

At least it sounds as if you won't get any house mice. Or not for long.

Hadn't thought about the bell putting her in danger. Might get rid of it as there are lots of foxes here. She will not tolerate a closed cat flap at night. She howls and batters doors until she gets out.

Not much traffic on our road until school run time.

Good point about no mice. No wasps either she is amazing at catching them!

Could you lock her in a conservatory? I lock mine in so I can't hear him. He'd like to be out all night really.

The first summers the worst, it's a cornucopia of baby animals who can't get away in time.

Nowhere to lock her I'm afraid.

Just have to put up with it I guess
