Fur standing up

My cat's fur is standing up in ridges - as if she's literally gone through a bush backwards. She lets us brush her so doesn't appear to be in pain. But it's not going down. It's been like this for a few weeks.
Has anyone experienced this or know what this means?

Goodness - is this all the time? And what is her health like otherwise?

Yes it's all the time but only started recently. I initially thought she'd been scratched by another cat but there was no injury - just sort of separated fur standing up. And it appears to be getting more.

She's quite an aloof cat - doesn't like being picked up. We've only had her nearly a year. She was rehomed. She had cystitis twice in the first couple of months we had her (stress) but has been fine for the last 5 months or so - since we've had a Feliway.

She's nearly 4 btw.

I just don't know, What. That's normally a fear/pain response but to have it constantly as you describe? I think I'd want to have a chat with my vet if I were you. But maybe another poster has experienced this and can comment.

Is there anything you can think of about the household that has changed recently?

No, nothing's changed. But because she's still relatively new to us I'm still discovering things about her. Like the fact that she's a real creature of habit. She always sleeps in the same place and the only two times she's moved to somewhere else was when she was poorly. And she's now moved in the last couple of days. But she's jumping around the garden chasing flies and eating well so doesn't appear to be unwell in any way.

I think I should probably ring the vet tomorrow just to be sure.
