Our Foster Kittens Have Arrived!

Look at my lovely kitteny name change. It is in honour of our two/three foster kittens from Celia Hammond in Lewisham and their beautiful (if skinny) young mum - hardly more than a kitten herself Sad.

They arrived late Friday night (DC's were allowed to stay up late specially) and are settling in nicely. They're about 2 weeks old now, one chubby little smoke grey monster, one slightly runty black and white one who we were worried about but seems to be growing nicely, and a third one who was being hand reared after a ropy start and is being placed back into the family this afternoon!!!!!

We've just started to stroke them, and they have the softest fur in the whole wide world. DCs are besotted.

I'll try and get some photos onto my profile later today, but the kittens are still lurking in their box and I can't use flash, so they're of patchy quality.

Well, the little one has been taken away back to its incubator now Sad. At least they've found a substitute hand rearer so she doesn't have to cancel her holiday. I did offer to keep him, syringe feed and and find a way around the work situation (maybe using a cat sitter), but was kindly declined. I wish the little one all the best, but my hopes aren't high.

I had few hand reared but the ones who I had the most problems with were the tiny ones who couldn't feed at all and would often get pushed out of the way.

As my Mentor would say to me 'sometimes it's just not meant to be'

It doesn't make it ay sadder but he/she might be okay! You never know he might surprise everyone. Smile

You've done your best by the little one now enjoy the others who are with you.

Well you did your best, and he's been given the best chance he can possibly have, so we have to hope for the best but accept that if he doesn't make it at least it wasn't for want of trying.

So now just enjoy your little family.

Aw thanks Kittens, and many thanks for all the suggestions and moral support last night.

In happier news, I've started to put photos on my profile, just a couple for now, but in a week or so I should have more stumbly little fluffball photos than you can shake a stick at.

Fingers crossed for him anyway. Just to say that my Oneago was abandoned by his mother, along with his litter brother, just after birth. The breeder had to hand rear them from a few hours old and apart from being a rather quiet Siamese (no Mom chirruping at him all the time) he grew up fine and healthy.

Maybe it wasn't meant to be - but there are success stories.

Hope your other charges are doing fine. You're holding up well under all this.

Aww so sweet!!

Another good story, I had a little boy who weighed in at 75g, the rest of the litter were 100-120g, he spent a lot of time in my cleavage Blush and fed really well from a bottle, he was weaned at 3/4 weeks and even though he never fed from mum he used to lie and play with the others and always lay up beside mums head.

I was so attached to him I decided to keep him, then someone came to house to see another kitten and fell in love with him. I had 6 cats at the time.... so he went, but he lives close by, I was talking to his servant this morning. He was a curtain climber, he has an outside enclosure but can get to birds and brings them to his owner via her bedroom window.

I met some very strange people when I had the cats and kittens, I had to go take 2 back as people were being cruel. I had people coming to view adult cats just to see what they were like, I had people coming to see kittens, (some trying to take them at 5 weeks) Hmm I think that was another reason me and STBXH split, I barely noticed he was there.
