Jackson Galaxy 'My cat from hell'

Just wondering if any of you have caught this show on Animal planet? It's really interesting, he's sort of like the cesear milan of the cat world, only not as mean. We caught an episode of the latest series last night and just thought how lucky we are that ours are so happy and relaxed.

Just looked it up & had a look at some of the clips. Jackson's appearance is a bit distracting but it does look good...

He's full of tips peahentailfeathers, though with the people he visits, there always seem to be one person in the couple who 'isn't a cat person' (and you wonder why the cat has a problem with you?? really?). We took one tip on board from one we watched which was about having more high space for the cats to roam from place to place, ie. table to sofa to bookcase.

I love cat daddy! I'm reading his autobiography on my kindle and I'm loving that too. The cat noises on the show are comedy, has anyone seen the one with Oscar the Spinx who doesn't like having a bath?.

I'm not at all sure, RightsaidFreud. As with all reality TV shows, I'd kind of like to see what happens other than the few carefully edited bits they give you. I always have the feeling I'm not getting 9/10 of the story.

You're absolutely right about "reality" TV being massively manipulated. If you go into it aware of that, though, there can still be a certain enjoyment to it? And with this it seems as though there's potential for it to help viewers with issues they're having with their cats in a way that will achieve the outcome the humans desire without causing hurt (am meaning any sort of hurt, not specifically physical!) to the cat.

Cozie I hadn't actually thought about it like that, but you're absolutely right about reality tv being manipulated, I will take that into account next time I watch it.

Freud we've been laughing about Oscars shouting and screaming all week, he was so loud their neighbours had complained. Did you see him punching that woman in the face? I was wondering why she hadn't put him down but he'd been de clawed Sad. I'd love to be friends with a Spinx but wouldn't want to share a house with one.

I'm a bit woo and had been wondering if Jackson is and from reading his book I can confirm that he is, he doesn't mention Reiki but his methods for tuning into cats energy is very Reiki.

Has anybody seen the one where it was a couple and the cat hated the man but adored the woman?. Turns out the cat had a thing about hands and Jackson isolated it to a fist shape specifically and gave the man a right grilling about how far he'd taken his anger towards the cat. The man was going really red and squirming and denying ever punched the cat, Jackson gave him the benefit of the doubt but he knew.

Bootsy Yeah, that one was the same episode as Oscar the spinx. It was really horrible to watch because the poor cat was so afraid of a clenched fist, it really made me think that he had hit the cat in the past. That was the first episode I've seen of it that has made me feel really uncomfortable, and I think you're right, Jackson knew. Am i right in thinking that cats in america have to be kept indoors? I can't imagine having to keep ours indoors 24/7, they love having their adventures!

Ahhh your right Freud it was the same episode as Oscar. Jackson handled that cat bully man really well when he put him on the spot asking him questions. No idea about American cats having to be kept indoors, I suppose it's not safe for the moggys to play out in some places because of predatory local wildlife. Our boy was grounded for a week due to a leg wound that had stitches that needed to heal, he was meowing to go out and play constantly and sat watching the other neighbourhood cats playing out with a Sad face.

I want to see that episode with the closed fist. I can count on seeing it as these shows are repeated endlessly.

In Jackson's book, which he reads, he tells how he used to be morbidly obese.

I am in U.S. and cats can be in, out, or in and out at will. I am amazed, though, at how many cats in England are allowed outside when you live near dangerous roads.

Most rescue centres will assess living situation, including proximity to a busy road, if you are adopting one of their cats. We live about 150yards from a main road, and were told they would not give us a totally black cat due to the risk it would not be seen, but we could have black and white cats.

We were also advised to only let our cats play in the back gardens, so, as our house backs onto the gardens of the houses in the next street, and we are all in terraced houses, our cats have a wide area to roam with only a slim chance of finding a way out to either the quieter side roads we live on, or the main road.

Its always been commonplace for cats to be outdoors, its only recently I have heard about indoor only cats. I have a friend who lives above her work and has 2 cats who never go out - they seem as content as my two who are out everyday - each to their own as long as the Cats are happy and cared for.

I live about as far from a road as you. 400+ feet. We have garage cats, four of them I had rescued, one was friendly. That was Oliver and he was totally black. He got killed on our road one night. After that, we closed garage at night but it was too late for Oliver.

That sounds like a fun area you have for cats to roam in. I once saw an overhead shot of houses with brick walled yards, and it showed where cats roamed and pointed out the area each cat claimed. Some cats claimed quite a lot!

I finished Jackson Galaxy's book on Sunday, if I'd have been in private I'd have indulged in a little cry but I was shopping with teenage dd, well sat outside the changing rooms for a good 45 minutes Grin

What a lovely man, I'd love to meet him. I love the way he deals with the cat "guardians" on My Cat from Hell, very helpful, firm and straight talking.
