I have a new kitten!!

Pics to follow this evening. I am watching her anxiously because I already have an 8 month old.
Owner was moving and going to give her to a rescue place. She is BEAUTiFUL.
Need advice though - whenever my boy approaches her, she growls - he is looking most perplexed, I feel a bit guilty. And even worse I have to go out at four for a couple of hours. Should I shut them in different parts of the house?

Well. I separated them. I've just got back to find my determined little boy had pushed the door open. So, not separated at all! Luckily, they seem a lot more at ease with each other - the growling has stopped. Scabbers is still following her around keenly, but she seems a lot more happy and relaxed. I gave them both a tiny bit of raw cod and they've wandered upstairs happy as anything.
So, so happy. Pic going on profile now...

Is that ginger one on the end your new kitten? Or is that a baby picture of the little guy further up, and the tri-colour is your new girl? Regardless, your kitties are adorable!

Well, my photos section seems to be playing up, with the captions going with the wrong photos, and pics appearing four times!
The ginger one is my first kitty - eight months old and lovely little boy. The tortoiseshell one is the one I got today. She's a year old but absolutely tiny. She came from a house with two Rottweilers though so she's doing a good job holding her own against the boy's advances. :-)

Well, I could cry with happiness. Was kept out of the house all day today. Came home expecting the worst, but they were sitting together, bumping noses! They've since gone tearing p the stairs after the same toy... I am so happy. When I got in, I sat on the carpet and they both came and were so affectionate. Lovely, lovely kittens!

I take that back. The houseplant upstairs is no longer rooted in its pot. The soil has been generously distributed over the landing. I hate them both!!!

I am very relieved they seem happy together now. It's so weird - my original boy is 8 months and a giant, whereas she is a year exactly and tiny! She was the first of her litter but the "runt" which seems really bizarre. A lovely, affectionate girl though. I can't help but feel she must feel more relaxed here without the Rottweilers, even though they weren't fierce.

Girls are usually dominant - in other words, he knows his place. They've done well to reach an accommodation so quickly though.

Oh what cuties! And now they are friends you don't need to worry about kitten being lonely when you're out... just have to worry about destruction of your house instead

This is it, zebra. I foolishly left the soil they knocked onto the floor, thinking I could sort it out this morning....and predictably she crapped in it. I really hope she begins to use the litter tray.

Pants. Suppose still slightly better than her going directly onto carpet? Has she A Tray Of Her Own? She might not be ok with sharing a tray, so a tray of her own would be a wise investment. My two are so ok with tray-sharing they'll both use it at the same time, but they're littermates & only sharing with each other must feel positively luxurious after having one (very small!) tray between 6 kittens & Mummy Cat!

She has a tray of her own, but I rather suspect the boy immediately peed in it. Happily, she's used his today, so I think that will be ok.

Luckily, they seem to have become best of mates and he's finally realised he needs to give her some space. I was rudely awoken this morning by them loudly playing a game they seem to have invented. They've brought up one of their jingle toys and it seems one of them puts it in the middle, they both back away from it, then the one who gives in first and grabs the toy loses and gets jumped on by the other!

Lots of nose bumping though so I'm very happy. I'm also convinced that although the boy would have been fine on his own, he's better with a little pal. He's still as loving as ever to me, but is no longer doing that obnoxious load miaow that means he's after my attention RIGHT NOW!

Glad she used a tray today anyway.

So long as they can negotiate both having access to a tray they'll be grand; & hopefully their bonding'll mean toilet arrangements get fixed up happily too.

I think you're right. The new one seems pretty much unused but at least it's there. God the noise of them tearing up and down the stairs is just thunderous. I'm sure my tutees will be suitably distracted this morning!

It is amazing how much noise two small kitties can make thundering up & down the stairs. Especially given how quietly they move the rest of the time...
