I wish I could get a GPS tracker for a collar

Has he got a chip, Girl?

thecatneuterer · 21/04/2013 20:23

Oh dear. It's awful isn't it. I'm sure he'll be back soon. And you can get a GPS tracking system for cats - I've looked into it - but it costs about £3000. I'm seriously considering it though ...

If there's still no sign tomorrow put notes on lamp posts and through doors and ask people to check their sheds.

GirlWiththeLionHeart · 21/04/2013 20:29

£3000?! I was thinking something similar to 'Wheres my iPhone' :)

Yes he has a chip but no collar. He always gets it off so gave up but I wish he did have one now as if he's been hurt they could call me :( he's only 1yrs old. I adopted him from cpl.

He's only recently been spending the night outside, his choice. Usually he comes in and sleeps on the bed but he stayed out.

I think they do this periodically just to freak you out, they do usually turn up again. Might be worth asking neighbours to check garages/sheds etc as once when one of ours disappeared she'd followed next door neighbour into storage space under house without them realising and they had locked her in.

cozietoesie · 21/04/2013 20:32

A chip is a lot better than a collar - vets etc will automatically scan for a chip if they receive a stray whereas collars can come - or be taken - off.

GirlWiththeLionHeart · 21/04/2013 20:49

What if he's hurt or been run over? Will I ever find out?

Just seen this www.trackmycat.com/ £60 for a gps collar that tracks them on google maps. Wish I had got that. I really hope he comes back he's a lovely boy

This has happened a few times with my 2 year old cat. A couple of times he has just turned up a day later, without a care in the world.

One time he disappeared for a couple of days so I started calling his name at each garage and shed on our street that I could see. Halfway down our street I heard him meow from one of the garages! The owner wasn't due to open her garage for another week so I was really lucky to have found him. I thought the whole cats getting locked in sheds/garages was a bit of a myth, but it does happen and it's worth checking.

I know how you feel, it's awful isn't it. Hope he'll be alright, they normally are.

whethergirl · 21/04/2013 21:39

Wow that cat tracker looks great! Think I'll get one!

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/04/2013 22:19

Right, you're going to ring all the local vets tomorrow, the local rescues and, I'm afraid, the council refuse dept.

Then you need posters up in the local area and to walk around calling him.

Phone the chip company and report him missing, some chip companies help with posters iirc.

Don't give up hope. In the future keep him in at night, it's a dangerous time for him.

I lock ours in the conservatory.

GotMyGoat · 21/04/2013 22:23

You're not in oxfordshire are you? Been some kitty disappearances locally :(

Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2013 22:28

I hope he comes back soon. Don't forget to tell the Postman/Binmen and letting the neighbourhood children know. They can lookout for him.

Fingers crossed x

thecatneuterer · 21/04/2013 23:33

Oh wow. GPS trackers are certainly cheaper now than when I looked into them (about two years ago). That is a really good idea.

I'm sure he'll come back though OP. Try not to worry yet.

GirlWiththeLionHeart · 21/04/2013 23:35

I've already updated him as missing on the chip website which alerts all vets. If he doesn't come back by morning ill print off some posters too :(

Thank you Sparkling

No I'm in London, Goat

Problem is I can't get him to come in, in the evenings so he stays out all night now it's warmer. He usually howls at the window at 6am but didn't today. I hope he's ok he's so lovely

LetUsPrey · 22/04/2013 08:15

So relieved he's back. Had a similar thing yesterday with my cat.

He waited until both cars were gone from the house and came back whilst everyone was out!

GirlWiththeLionHeart · 22/04/2013 08:17

Little buggers. I'm making a right fuss of him, love him

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/04/2013 08:30

Our cat had a talent for coming back as dh was driving out the road at 1am to look for him. I think he waited on the garage roof, it was an area with little street lighting so he could be stealthy.

Don't forget to ring the chip company up.

Sparklingbrook · 22/04/2013 09:49

Yay!! Does cat dance Grin
