Anyone know about British Short-Hairs?

I've got two beautiful boys. Both 9 months old from the same litter.
I've only ever had moggies so not sure if this is common for British Short-Hairs.

They both snore and grunt a lot. Is this normal for this breed because they have quite a flat nose?

Not sure if I should be taking them both to the vets.

Is that when they're asleep? I should imagine that their breed face shape is a main contributory factor for such young cats but there are some BSH owners who post who might be able to advise you specifically. As long as they're not having problems when they're awake such as gasping for breath (and aren't overweight) I wouldn't make a special trip to the vet for it. Just mention at their next check up as you would with any other thing happening to them.

They both grunt a lot when awake. Mainly when using the litter tray (they are homely boys so don't like going out in the garden much )

One of them will grunt at me when I talk to him which is funny. I'm sitting here now with them both next to me snoring!

PS - if you're on good terms with their breeder, it might be worth mentioning to them in case there's a genetic issue which the breeder should be aware of or can advise you on. I'm sure you don't want to send them back or anything like that but if both brothers are exhibiting an issue at such an early age then maybe the breeder should know about it.

Unfortunately I don't know the breeder. I inherited them from my DM when they were 5 months old (My DM bought them. I had them for free ) She was recommended the breeder through the local vet they're both registered with.

They were neutered, chipped and vaccinated by the same vet. They were there a few hours but the vet never mentioned anything.

I think one of the vets posting here might see your post and advise. If the normal BSH 'call' is a grunting thing then maybe you have no cause for concern - and cats do sometimes snore when they're asleep. (Seniorboy has taken to whuffling in his sleep over the last few years.)

I'm just maybe a little edgy about their both doing it at such a young age when awake. If there's an issue, I don't think there would be anything you could do apart from making sure they don't become Fatty Chops (BSH being prone to overweight) but I would be thinking about mentioning to the breeder.

Wait and see what other replies you get. There are vets who post here who might be in a position to advise more clearly.

Ah well (sorry -x post.) They're both neutered at least. Wait and see what others may advise.

I think i will have to get a breed book and read up about them. One of them is is getting a bit porky but it's actually the smaller healthier weight on who makes the most noise.
He's quite a character though so maybe it is just his personality.

Sorry to drip feed, I just remembered, he can't cry/meow like the bigger one. It's a very croaky/husky sound.

i had a BSH and garfie used to snore when he was asleep but not when he was awake , but he didnt have an overly flattened nose

Hello, I have 2, they both snore loudly when asleep.

But my youngest is a slight variation on a standard BSH he was bred from an exoctic BSH male and has a slightly flatter nose. He seems to grunt a lot when eating ( like a litlle piggy bless him) and he also snuffles a lot when wide awake.
