Noisy boy!

Lovely big jolly rescueboy. he is nearly 8 and we have had him for about three months. The trouble is, he will not shut up ..He squawks first thing until we're all up - checks all the bedrooms until he's certain everyone is awake; he squawks when we put his food down, while he's eating and after he's eaten it; he squawks as he walks, runs, goes upstairs, does ANYTHING! not unfed or unloved, goes out occasionally, but prefers 'in' and is obviously not ill. Why does he do it?? I have never heard a cat make so much noise!!

He sounds a combination of deliriously happy to be where he now is and insecure that it's all going to get taken away from him! Do you know any of his history? And do you talk to him when he yowls?

PS - he could also just have a BIG MOUTH !

we do talk to him, occasionally the words 'shut it cat!!' do emit from our mouths I'm afraid...He was a family pet apparantley and they got a kitten that he didn't like so they got rid of him :( He has clearly been very loved (is enormous but shiney ). Aww, well I hope he's happy..

I'm not entirely sure that that spells 'very loved' to me eminem. (Reading behind the rescue blurb that they have to do for all the animals.)

Lots of TLC, talk to him when he yowls and see how it goes, I think.

I know what you mean, but he has been 'looked after' physically. he's very bright and alert and shiny -coated. (fat...) I love him ever so much, he's lovely when he's sitting queitly and rubbing his little face against my hand

Hopefully, you rewarding his quiet behaviour with lots of love and starting to feel secure in his new home will calm him down.

Some cats are gobby fuckers, we've got one who would useless in a real life mouse catching adventure... She'd meow at the poor thing and give the game away.

She meows for food, to tell us to play with her, that her litter tray needs emptying that we should go to bed. Etc etc

haha! He loves getting us up in the morning. I get this little face and two paws on the side of the bed going 'MOWWWWWWWW' , then he totters over me to dh and does the same thing before getting the children up. Like a fussy sheepcat.

I tell you - although you think you find it annoying, if he wasn't there now, the house would feel horribly quiet.

My two are VERY chatty kitties with an impressive vocabulary. One of the most heartmelty moments in my life was black!kitten "finding" his purr. Blond!kitten settled much sooner & got his purr on in a couple of days, so black!kitten starting to purr (it was such a funny rusty noise & he looked really startled to be making it!) was a major cause of the Warm&Fuzzies.

They would love to be able to act as my alarm in the morning but they're shut out of my room at nights to allow me to get some sleep. Should I ever attempt a lie-in they will meowl outside my door until I prove to them that I Really Am Just Fine. They call for me if they're not sure where I am & they'll come & chat to me before they snuggle up for a snooze. They both have impeccable timing when it comes to chiming in with conversations too...

Your chattercat sounds very cute indeed & as others have said he might well get a wee bit quieter as he settles in. Yay you for giving him a loving new home, too

he's completely baffled now as we have all been even more loving to him ! Last night he was on ds bottom bunk and i went in to give him a little pat - he sort of grabbed my arm with his front paws and snuffled me and licked me. it was so sweet!!
