i have a 7yr old slightly dippy persian who is an indoor/outdoor cat. and not the best at grooming herself either..because of this she does get tattier than i can always handle so we get her clipped/shaved a couple of times a year. shes been to vets this week and shaved, quite short this time as shes been playing out in snow and whatnot so she'd got a bit matted underneath.
as its been freezing ive kept the catflap shut so she can't just dissapear. but last night she was howling and pratting about so at 3am i shut her in kitchen so she didnt wake the kids up (DH working away and a toddler & baby up at 3am is more than i can handle!). she had blankets and warm cat bed, food, water etc but this wasnt enough and at some point has broken out. 
i was out in garden hunting for her at 7am and found her curled up frozen under a bush. i brought her in and wrapped her up but she was howling so shes gone to vets. pretty sure she has hypothermia.
feel rotten now..
