Cat was spayed today and is sprinting around!

Should I be worried? She's taking huge leaps off sofa etc. people don't even drive a car for 6 weeks after a hysterectomy but she is leaping down off windowsill etc. I'm worried she'll do herself some damage. The wound is fine and she seems very happy but vet said she would probably be a bit drowsy this evening!
Our house is very open plan no option really to shut her in a small room

I know it's amazing isn't it. That seems to be the rule rather than the exception. I had a friend who had a hysterectomy and it made me seriously think (although I kept it to myself) that she must be malingering as it doesn't seem to affect cats at all. No need to be worried.

Cats are sometimes daft after GAs - they do stupid, misjudged leaps, walk when they shouldn't etc etc - it's like they're trying to power through the residual disorientation and drowsiness to stay awake and watch out for bigger predators. I always think that watching out for them afterwards is one of the most difficult parts of an op.

If possible, encourage her to come and sit on a lap or bed so that she can relax and feel safer. It may not do any good though. But if her stitches are fine....

She should conk out with tiredness shortly and then she'll be out for the count until morning.

I'm sure she will be fine, but keep an eye on the wound. Maybe when you settle down to bed she will calm down.

One of my cats was a stray that turned up on our doorstep, we got her spayed when we decided to keep her and she hated having to use a litter tray. Whilst staying in after her op, she managed to push open a window and jump out of a 1st floor window (was a hot day and only open a smidge) did her business in the garden and came back to the front door to come back in. And she was fine.

Ah thanks for putting my mind at rest she has just ffinally gone to sleep so has hopefully worn herself out. It hasn't been very relaxing watching her this evening. Made me wince a bit!

Mine did much the same thing after having her teeth out. She was running around like a loon. (She also looked totally off her face with huge eyes)

My girl leapt like a lunatic 6 feet high to get the lampshade off. So I conceded..then she sat under the dining chair trying to nibble her stitches.

When I would shout "NO!"..she would walk under the next chair (like I could n't see her), and try nibble them again daft mare

They're not responsible for their actions after a GA. Makes you wonder what humans get up to in hospital recovery rooms! (Any nurses on the board - please maintain a discreet silence.)
