What is the best wormer to use?

I use frontline for fleas but what s the best wormer to use for the different types of worms? Thanks

Drontal are routinely used by vets, I think they're only available at your vets, or at least they used to be. I wouldn't recommend pet shop worming tablets at all.

Drontal. Definitely don't bother with off-the-shelf wormers. You can buy Drontal in vets, Pets at Home and most pharmacies.

Ah yes, Milbemax too.

No Frontline isn't best. Fleas seem to have become resistent to it and so we've stopped selling it. If it doesn't seem to be working for you try Advocate or Advantage.

I forgot to mention Stronghold for fleas as well.

Drontal is one tablet per 4kg most average cats adult cats are greater than 4kg. So my preference is Milbemax as one tablet (smaller than Drontal) does up to an 8kg cat as much more likely to get effective dosing. Plus Milbemax has a FAB award for ease of dosing.

Does a cat who never goes out need to be wormed / flea treated?

our cats don't go out, Venus, but we still get bitten once the treatment wears off. it's down to all the eggs lurking in the soft furnishings I think

I couldn't get worming pills into them, so now they get Advocate which is a spot-on that does both, hurrah. (also seems to be effective for even more than the 6 weeks it says, double hurrah)

Oh thanks Ponders, can I ask you, how do house cats get fleas or worms?
Our kitten has recently been spayed, and it occurred to me that she could pick up all kinds of things in the vets!
Otherwise she's a house cat. She was wormed and vaccinated before we got her. Dog fleas are different aren't they, and she never meets cats.
I'm just wondering how could she get worms/fleas.

Houses aren't a sealed environment so you could bring eggs in on your clothes or shoes for instance. (From being in a place that was infected but you didn't know it.) An acquaintance of mine, who looked after cats, once said that some of the worst cases of fleas she ever saw were in house cats whose owners had assumed that they were never going to get beasties and so never bothered to check or medicate.

Venus, Advocate is prescription only so you can either buy it from your vet (expensive) or pay your vet for a prescription & buy it online - which is cheaper depends how much your vet charges to write a prescription.

My vet "negotiated a discount with Bayer" (who make it), so that it costs me exactly the same as paying them for a prescription & buying it online. Funny, that

Her breeder recommended brewer's yeast to get rid of fleas, if she ever got them.
Anyone hear of this remedy?

Off to the vets tomorrow, for her post spay checkup: anyone have any suggestions as to what I should ask for prescription wise, apart from advocate Tia again!

we use Milbemax as it's such a tiny tablet I can hide it in a bit of squishy cat treat or cheese.

I tried that, Leticia - damn cat would detect it (by scent apparently) in the middle of a lump of cheese & walk away!

Panacur paste is easier than any tablet I have used. It seems to work well as my cats have never had anything nasty

Wicked girl Panacur paste doesn't quite do all the worms so should be alternated with another wormer,
