Moving house

We've just moved house. How long should we keep the cats in for? They are indoor/outdoor cats at our last house. Our new house is on a very quiet road so I'm not worried about cars. One of our cats, I would classify as a bit special needs. He was very ill as a kitten and I think he has memory issues. He got lost in our old neighborhood, but we found him after a couple of weeks. The other two are a bit more sensible (except the one that keeps trying to climb up the chimney).

Personally, I would use trays and allow them to stay in until they ask to go out. I'd also go outside with them at first and keep the door open so that they can dive back in again if they want.

Have you seen any other cats around?

Does the unsensible one try to climb up the inside of the chimney?

We have seen another cat around, but knowing our softies, they'll invite him in and give him their dinner. I think once they've come out from under the bed I'll let them out supervised.
Yes, she tried to climb up the inside of the chimney. Dh and I were watching Telly and heard a noise and it was her coming out if the fireplace. She's black and white, but was black and gray for a few days. Silly beast! I hope she doesn't try it again or I'll have a mn thread about how to get the damn cat out of the chimney

I know the feeling. The only cat I've ever had to actually bath was a (pale) Siamese kitten who decided to go up the chimney and came back black! The experience of the bath haunts me still.

If you're not going to light a fire in it, stuff some crumpled newspaper inside a black plastic bag and stuff if loosely up the chimney, bottom first, for a few days. Easily pulled down and no loose paper to be sucked up there and cause problems. (If you actually light a fire she'll avoid it.)
