I pulled the second one out of his mouth. Totally our fault, he should never be allowed in the kitchen before I've tidied.

Yikes. How long was it? (The one that went down before you caught the little blighter that is.) It might just pass through, particularly if he noshed it to bits before swallowing.

More kitchen surface discipline required in FluffyTowers I think. But that is preaching to the choir, I guess.

I'm trying to remember - he poos outside doesn't he? (The great advantage of having house cats as I do (apart from The Lodger) is that you can see what comes out.)

I think you're right in that you need a vet opinion - maybe Lone or Samvet will be around later. I'd keep my fingers crossed that it passes but have him down to the vets ASAP if any sign of trouble. I have a feeling that that would be a GA investigative op so not something I would go for just on spec.

My cat pood a huge piece of string this morning. Walked around in a very panicked way, bobbing up and down, with it trailing poo all over legs and tail. I had to pull the rest out and it's not a job for the faint hearted!
Luckily there wasn't much poo everywhere she had been, and she likes baths.

I would wait and see in this instance. First sign of any unwellness straight down the vets. Elastic is often okay it is sewing thread that is the killer.
The lonecats have also been down this route with no ill affect, there is no kitchen work surface discipline in the lone household.
