Aaargh, help please

Ok 3 cats 6 months & under seem to be crapping next to there litter trays instead of in them , I clean them regularly & everything.
What am I doing wrong

How regularly is regularly ? (They like very much to have a fresh surface to scrabble around in to do a poo.)

I scoop say every hour no life & it gets changed every night

Okey cokey. There are some things to think about.

You mentioned 'trays' at one point and then 'it'. How many are there? You should certainly have more than one for 3 cats - and some would argue maybe 3 - even with assiduous cleaning.

The good news is that they're pooing next to their trays and not in random places - so they recognize the correct area. How long have they been doing it, though, and does it happen every time?

I'd have to guess (and it is a guess given that I don't know your cats and the relationship between them) is that you're maybe not using litter that they like but more likely that you're maybe doing a complete change a bit too often so that the actual trays, although clean, don't have that good smell of 'my place'. The carpet/floor which they're using, unless you're cleaning it quite exceptionally well, will however have a whiff which is maybe confusing them.

I have 2 trays atm going to get another this week .
It has been going on for around 2 weeks & I always use the same litter .
Is there a tray that is better than others ?

That should be fine on number then. I'd try just scooping out for a few days and see how that goes. (Top up when you've scooped out and smooth over.)

Also - clean the carpet/floor they've used very thoroughly indeed. Someone else might be able to give you good recommendations on cleaning carpet properly. (I have polished floors so am not hot on carpet advice.)

You are "supposed" to have a tray per cat + an extra. . Although this is advice from mad cat people

Biological washing powder is brilliant for removing pet pee as it dissolves fat deposits that the smell sticks to. In my house pet pee is treated with the biological washing powder mix and a scrubbing brush, then I also follow it up with a commerical spray to make sure its all gone.. No problems with repeat accidents. You need to make sure the area gets wet enough to go down to the underlay too though
