Lovely cat suddenly turned grumpy

We have 3 cats, the eldest is a rescue cat, the middle cat was a rescue but got her as a kitten and she had one litter before we could get her neutered, the third cat is one from her litter, also neutered but had no kittens.

The middle cat used to be really lovely, DS has autism and was constantly picking her up and mauling with her and she used to purr and not even blink about it. She always got on with the other cats etc

I got together with Bf about 3/4 months ago, he was my friend before. But she seemed to take to him immediately, about a week in she started growling if any of the other cats came anywhere near him. It was funny at first, she was a bit possessive.

But now it's constant. If he's there and she's sat on him and I stroke her she scratches me. If any cats come near her ever (even of he isn't here) she hisses, if anyone else comes to visit she sniffs them and goes and sits and faces the wall as if in a strop that it's not BF its dead odd!!!

She never scratches or hisses at BF....

Is this normal?? Do they tend to get this possessive over people??

They are very odd creatures.

Thing is she's dangerous around my child now so I keep having to shut her in different rooms or shoo her out

Try Feliway to calm her down? Or maybe your partner should put her down and ignore her whenever she's aggressive?

I'll try that thank you. He does put her down when she's aggressive but she's carrying on even when he's not here

She may be in pain for something, can the BF grope her all over, see if she has a painful spot?

I'd get him to give her a grope as well - just to make sure she's not got a problem. They can get possessive but a sudden extreme change in personality would usually have me heading down to the vet.

I have had a grope myself and she seems fine, eating and drinking ok, pooing and weeing ok, going out hunting and coming in sleeping, everything the same apart from deciding that no one is allowed near her apart from BF.

Right. Then BF (who is probably enjoying this obesssion - as they do!) has to distance himself. (I'm thinking here of your DS.) He needs to start saying NO and pushing her away. She'll be antsy about it perhaps but ignore that and just get him to do it. They can get obsessive but it doesn't mean that you all have to put up with it.
