my cat's 3rd eyelids are showing in both eyes -any ideas?

he's well in himself, eating, drinking etc, doesn't seem to have a temp

he went wandering for 6 hours, came home yesterday afternoon and by early evening it was happening occasionally, now they don't seem to retract at all and are part covering his eye

has anyone seen this before?

his eyes don't look sore or have discharge?

The only time I have seen this in my cats has been after an operation - so when they were on painkillers .

Could he have eaten something that he shouldn't have?

don't know, he spends a good proportion of the day outside so anything is possible

I would recommend you get your cat checked over but it's probably not an emergency if he's eating, drinking, seems okay in himself.
Often, if it's in both eyes, we find no cause but it's worth making sure they don't have diarrhoea or tapeworms ( use drontal).
The good news is, if there is no obvious cause it's self limiting and will go away on its own.

he's fully up to date with his worm/fles treatments
I have no idea what his bowel movements are like as I have never worked out where he goes to do his business

he's very sleepy today but has the odd sleepy day

god you don't realise how important these little guys are until they are poorly

it's right over his pupils and the dcs are worried the is goining blind

not that I'm not worried or anything

one of mine had this i took him to the vets and it was an eye infection simple eye cream sorted it so might be worth taking him anyway

Seniorboy had this on one eye and I wiped with warm water, It went away - but if it hadn't, I'd have had him to the vet sharpish. (They were on the other end of the phone as I was wiping, anyway.) Eye problems can be serious if untreated.

took him, apparently he has some odd virus that causes upset stomach and eye problems

he doesn't use a litter tray so I didn't know but it was apparent when he was examined -ew!!!

we have 3 days of stinky liquid that I have ressorted to putting in sardines to get him to have it

apparently the eyelids might stay like that for a month

Mine had this, vet thought it was a norovirus, and she got better just fine.
