Kitten vs. cat adoption

I have a darling cat who is 13 and in good health. DH and I have been talking about getting another one, but I'm stuck between getting an adult cat or a kitten. Our first port of call will be our local Cats Protection League who seem to have both 'in stock' as it were. I understand that we'll have to have a house check but we have a safe, enclosed garden, a catflap in the back door and anyone who spends half an hour in the house knows that the cat rules the roost

I feel a bit guilty about going straight for the kitten option but current cat has always been an only. Am I right (or wrong) in thinking that he'd find a kitten easier to cope with than an adult cat? He's not aggressive or territorial (seems to have come to an arrangement with neighbouring cats about access right across the garden, shed roofs and such) but my DM has always maintained that cats have a pecking order, and as such, I should get a kitten who will know it's place, WRT current cat.

Am I over-thinking this? I love my cat so much and he's been with me for so long, I'd hate to do anything that unsettled him

I would go for the kitten based on the same reasoning as you.

I plan to do the same although my girl is so spoiled and follows me around like a shadow I'm sure her nose will be put out a little.

Lots of treats for your big cat so he knows he is still no1 :)

Stookie my boy is the same. TBH it's more that DH and DD would like a cat that will cuddle them! His Nibs is unwaveringly devoted to me quite rightly and is utterly irreplaceable as far as I'm concerned.

They're so special aren't they :o

My girl isn't fussy where she gets her cuddles as long as she gets lots. I am usually cast aside when DF comes to visit!

Another addition would be lovely though, especially if your dd and dh get a look in :o
