I love my two black cats , we rescued them as kittens they had been abandoned in a plastic bag.
One of them passed away last year and the other is now ten . One came to us with really bad conjunctivitis he was really manky and tiny , I think thats why my sister picked him originally.

The only downside to having black is you can never take a decent photo of them they just look like blobs unless you have a really high tec posh camera.

Our cat Binky (De'ath's Horse cat of the apocalypse, Prachett) was an October kitten, and was named Pumpkin when we got him. He is a proud black panther, who lost his mum too young (probably run over) and still sucks his favourite blankie.

Themumsnot · 27/10/2012 15:22

I have a lovely black cat too. And an equally lovely ginger one. Can't imagine not wanting a black cat - mine is gorgeous.

HappyBloodBlackPumpkinEater · 27/10/2012 15:27

Binky is currently amusing us by fishing the bits out of his water fountain, then dipping his paw in the water and sucking the water off. Mad cat. Grin

I have 2 black cats, I call them my little panthers! Black cats are sleek and elegant. And very daft!

alistron1 · 27/10/2012 17:03

Oh and yes to the photo thing! My 2 snuggle up together and its super cute - but I just can't get a decent photo of them doing it.

CottageCheeseAndAppleSandwich · 27/10/2012 19:25

Black cats are beautiful. People can be so stupid.

redrubyshoes · 28/10/2012 01:15

I want a black cat and I want him/her now but bad tempered old tabby says NO to another cat. Sad

I have a black rescue cat, I called him Salem.

I only wanted a black cat because I had heard they were hard to rehome. None of my friends or family were surprised at him being black (I am an ex goth). I am currently trying to persuade my DH that we should have another black cat and then a black dog (Merlin and Morganna).

I can never remember if black cats are supposed to be lucky or not

Flippityjig · 28/10/2012 01:26

We too have a black cat called Kaspar, along with our Siamese. Before them we had two black cat brothers. I love them, they are so striking.

BabeRuthless · 28/10/2012 17:35

I've got no issue with black cats as such. We had a black cat a few years back & she was amazing. The only thing which would put me off is the fact that there's at least two black cats on our street already, one of who is an absolute bugger. I'm not a big fan of collars either, so how the devil would I tell them apart?

noarguments · 28/10/2012 22:54

I've had my new black kitten a week now.
In both the adult cat room and the kitten room at the rehoming centre, I'd say 80% were black. The staff said that the black ones always take much much longer to rehome. Really sad.

HalloweenCatsRock · 29/10/2012 07:18

We've just got two kitties. One is black and white and the other totally black - both with gorgeous brown eyes.

Madmog · 29/10/2012 09:44

Our male cat is mainly black with a small amount of white on him and, although, I say it myself he's the best looking one in the whole street (a lot of cats live in the area). He is very popular with two neighbours who readily invite him in, tell me of his antics and actually knock on my door if they haven't seen him for a few days to check he's okay! His sister in black and white and I couldn't ask for a nicer natured cat - she is everything I could want from a cat, great company, sleeps on our bed, is a lap cat and is a regular purrer.

RightsaidFreud · 29/10/2012 09:48

Our cat is all black with huge green eyes, he's beautiful. Very elegant and has such a huge personality. There was another black cat around our road who was 18 (quite an old chap!) and he would patrol the pavement, and it would geniounly sound like he was trying to talk to you!

But i don't like this time of year for them, with it being so close to Halloween, some people can be very funny about black cats. I tend to keep him over Halloween.

TwoIfBySea · 29/10/2012 09:58

Oh I miss my black cat, had him through childhood - he was very tolerant! But I can't possibly rehome another kittie at the moment as with a brother and sister ginger pair (4) and a cantankerous old black and white (12) I fear I'd start being known as that mad old cat lady.

Redrun · 29/10/2012 10:03

We have two gorgeous pure black cats. We got them as kittens from the RSPCA, think they might have maine coon in them as they are massive with great big manes, lots of fur! They have the sweetest nature.
To be honest we have always had black cats, simply because of the reason above, no one wants them, usually the last to be adopted and yes by us! We are soppy though.
