Cat being put to sleep tomorrow...

...and I'm in tears!! He's 15. So had a good innings but I am still struggling to deal with it. Help??

One of my colleagues pets died this week and she has been very upset. It made me think of the inevitable death of my cat (she's about 12) and I had a little cry on my way home just thinking about it.

15 years is a long time to have a relationship, it's no surprise you're upset

Oh - you have my sympathy too - I was really sad for days when our pet rabbit died.
You might find that you feel a bit better tomorrow when it's over. Have you decided what will happen to him after?

Yes hugs from me too, my little animal is on the end of the bed as I type and I can't imagine what its going to be like when his time comes.... :( All I can think is, spend the entre time with him if you can and then say your goodbyes and try to think of it as part of life. We all born, grow up, and then die and it is just a part of life. Are you planning to get another cat? I could never replace my little animale, but we would get another cat for sure, and he/she would be a different little animal to know and love...

No I don't think he's in pain. I just can't deal with being responsible for this. 15 years is a long time.

Why are you saying goodbye?

It's the hardest decision in the world. AS much as I shout at my Boycat when he sticks his head in front of the laptop screen, I will miss him, when he eventually goes.

On the vets advice. He is incontinent and his stomach is huge. Probably a tumor. We do have another cat, which helps.

Oh bless you My DH said to me that knowing when to let them go is your last act of love for your pet. He's right and whilst it will be so sad for you tomorrow and in the coming weeks, hopefully that thought will be a bit of a comfort xx

So sorry. I had to have onecof.mine put to sleep in the summer. He was very ill. I miss him a lot still. He only really liked me in the family. Having other cats does help. Lots of strength for tomorrow (unMN hugs)

Oh I'm so sorry to read this. Had my lovely boy pts on Monday and I'm still in bits!! Just like your's, mine had a growth in his tum, his legs went, he couldn't raise his head properly or focus on me. Worst thing I've ever had to do. My heart totally goes out to you, Frog. Sending hugs. Xx
