Siamese?

A girl I work with has two Siamese cats and needs to rehome them due to DCs allergies, anyone who has Siamese that can tell me what they're like with kids, my frame of reference is Lady and the Tranp and I'm not sure that's helpful!

They talk a lot. Compared to other cats they are usually pretty in your face quite literally. They love human attention, they love high drama over the slightest thing. They are usually really good with children once they come to like them though sometimes they flee to the highest point.
Think DARLING! DRAMA! DRAMA! and that pretty much sums them up. If they could be on the stage they would be!

they sound interesting the current owner has 2 kids and says they're fine, are they independent or do they like to be around you a lot?

Siamese love people. I love them to bits, but wouldn't have one as I think they would be too high maintenance for me. This is from a woman with a British Short hair and they after all are superior beings who occasionally deign to acknowledge the staff they employ to care for them.

They're clingier than toddlers, lol...doesn't matter what you're doing, they're there, I pick up washing with a cat attached, she sits between me and the computer, between me and a book, she looks in every cupboard I put things in and she even follows me to my neighbour's when I go for coffee.

She's great with kids though, because they give her the attention she feels she is due.

I have a siamese and love him to bits. However they are very different to other cats, they crave human company. My siamese is like a dog, he follows me around the house all the time. He also likes to play, we throw toys for him and he retrieves them for me to throw again. They can be very noisy and talk to you. They certainly have lots of character. Mine has the nasty habit of pinching gloves and soft toys which he then chews. We have to stop him because he swallows bits which could block his intestines.

I wouldn't be without him!

I've got one, he's my second.

Both have been very, very vocal and dog-like. They need company. And cuddles. And they practically insist on sleeping in the bed with us.

With kids, both have been terrific. First cat we got when DS was 2 and we never had any issues. Second cat was only a few months when DS2 was born so has done all of the baby stuff (being chewed, tail pulled etc) and has never scratched or bitten - he just moves himself off and looks for sympathy. People say they're generally good with children, and yes they are.

Both of them, however, have had issues with Cat1, who is a typical moggy. It's like they speak different languages and they have had little to do with each other. We recently got Siamese2 a wife (oriental breed) and they adore each other.

They are absolute characters. They are wonderful. As much as I love my moggy, I am an Oriental breed convert

We had a Burmese cat when I was a kid - apparently they're much like Siamese cats, temperament-wise.

He was "all of the above", as it were - vocal, clingy, playful, cuddly, insisted on being with you everywhere, even to the extent of taking showers with us (this really had to be seen to be believed.)

They are also VERY bright and ours could open doors no problem - even bolted ones! He was extremely even-tempered and put up with us kids dressing him up in dolls clothes etc etc.

FTRs mammy, did you decide to have the Siamese?

Thank you for all the feedback ladies, I've agonised for 2 days, DH is not a cat person so I wasn't sure how he'd feel about a pet that would be such a big in your face part of our lives, however he's in the Royal Navy and is only getting home one weekend every 4-6 weeks at the mo, so he wouldn't be living with them everyday. Final decision is that I'm going to take them!! DS and I are going to collect them on Sunday so ill put up some pics asap

DS is fairly indifferent to them coming, in fact when I asked him if he thought he would like them to come and live at our house he said " hmm probably not mammy they're too boring" that seems to be his answer to everything these days! I, on the other hand, can think of nothing else

Got my first one at 9 years old and that was longer ago than I care to admit to! They're quite wonderful.

I remember my young brothers 'playing' with him on the lawn behind the greenhouse. One had the head and front paws and the other the back paws - and they were almost pulling him apart because each wanted him. He was yowling but his claws were sheathed - and let's face it: a cat could get out of that position if they cared to be aggressive.

DS will probably end up being their biggest fan. Pay no attention to the 'they're too boring' stuff. The men in my family are nonchalant about our Siamese but are very deeply attached to them beneath it all.

We keep the bedroom doors closed but DS woke up for the loo at about 1.30 on night and I didn't realise they were asleep outside my bedroom door, so I tripped over them, cats meowed, I swore, DS was crying chaos

DS is a total convert, Zara loves to lie on his lap like a baby

I'm surprised they haven't tried to get into bed with someone over night. (They tend to adopt household routines and sleep through.) Though there are two of them I guess. Still - don't be surprised (and tell DS not to be) if you wake up one chilly night to the feel of your face being patted to lift the duvet up!

PS - if DS were to leave his bedroom door open by mistake, I reckon they'd be in like a shot.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they figured out how to open the doors!

I was watching tv last night and heard the bathroom light switch on (light pull) and went upstairs thinking it was DS and found Zara playing with it! She's very curious and cheeky

My siamese kitten used to sleep in my arms under the duvet for the first few months. So sweet. Sadly these days he jumps around the bedroom in the night, waking us up, so now sleeps downstairs with the other cat. I miss him but also need my sleep. He would repeatedly scratch up the carpet in front of the bedroom door if he was allowed upstairs.
