I have been given an adult cat by my neighbour. Not owned a cat before. Anything I need to know/do besides the obvious care? Want to look after him properly :)

Did she give you his vaccination record? Vaccs protect against cat flu and feline leukemia, and he'll need a booster each year. The record will be needed if you put him in kennels.

After checking up on all the vaccination records, and making sure you've got them on the right food then get some cat nip and a laser pen Smile

keep him in for a few weeks so he realises he lives with you and not the neighbour

You'll need a litter tray, kept a decent distance away from their food and water

if he isn't already neutered, you should probably get that seen to

flea treat the house with a flea killing (indorex, available online and from vets, never get that bob martin shite) spray on all floors and soft furnishings every year, and frontline type flea treatment every 3/4 months - also worming every 6 months

You might also want to get him a scratch post and some toys

enjoy :o

These cat crystals are great in their litter tray, and really reduce the smell. This is an expensive brand but you can get cheaper ones.

Thanks, this cat chose to move in with me so I can't be doing too badly! Hope he remains satisfied Wink
