i have been distressed today to have discovered that under the top coat of my cat on her back/near the tail as well as a few matted areas that seem to have appeared as if over night although obviously haven't, there are a few small bald patches. i don't fiddle around in this area dispite grooming her every 2/3 days give or take, as she doesn't like it. it looks fine on top but when i moved the fur because of feeling some lumps (matts hidden underneath) there are a few small actual bald patches. she is booked in on wednesday next week to go to a cat groomer as initially i thought there were a few newly found matts only however now i am thinking she should go to the vets instead. she doesn't scratch or seem in discomfort, the skin doesn't look irritated. no idea if these bad areas are related to the matting or a skin issue? quite upset really, poor puss although she doesn't seem bothered... :(

Sometimes they pull mats out with their teeth and it looks bald but grows back.

Do you think shes done that?

not sure fluffy, i keep trying to comb one of the matts out (the one by the thinning area) but she doesn't like it, really frustrating too as i know i could comb this matt out (the other matt has no chance, far bigger and more established). will leave it to the 'hairdresser'. wouldn't want her job :) may take cat to the vet but tbh i don't think it needs it but will ask her opinion. cat seems happy and herself, fortunately

Try a furminator, I wish we'd had one when we had 3 chinchillas.

We had to take the really nasty one to the vets to be shaved under sedation, it was that bad.
