What does this kitten WANT?

I am currently babysitting a kitten. She is not very tiny, about 4 months. She has become quite used to be now and will occasionally snuggle but is very independent so doesn't like being picked up.

When I am in the kitchen she will stand and scream at me. She has food and water, and has been let out for a crap. If I pick her up she wriggles to be put down. What do you think she wants? Is she bored? Stressed?

It's like having a baby.

Better food is what mine usually want if I'm in the kitchen, if there's only dry food they want wet, if there's wet down already, they want fresher stuff, if it's not long down...well I'm not sure what, smoked salmon possibly? Lol. They seem to be of the opinion that I couldn't possibly be in the kitchen for any other reason than to feed them - even if they don't need food.

She may not like being picked up but still want some attention - scratch behind the ears, have a ball rolled around the room for her. Or like tabulahrasa says she may just want better food Grin

BurlingtonBertieFromBow · 31/08/2012 00:35

Yeah maybe that's it. Although she has all types of food down. Maybe she wants fish - I know she's given that sometimes by her actual human.

She will also only eat if I am there - is that normal?? So she will have a bowl full of food, I will come into the house and she will immediately rush over and devour the food that's ALREADY THERE.

I don't think mine know what exactly they're harassing me for - just that I'm where the food is, I exist only to serve them so there must be something worth asking for.

For my cat it is ham. If she hears the fridge open she thinks she is getting ham.

When my cat was a kitten we used to avoid going into the kitchen at all costs because it just sent her insane. She would climb our trouser legs and yell miaow loudly until we left the kitchen again. She is 5th now and doesnt do it any more!

she wants you to watch her eat. All kittens seem to do this, I don't know why. Perhaps its just programming that you eat when the bigun comes home, because mom would be bringing the meal?

She's yowling because she wants interaction too! balls is probably right too, she wants some interaction, and the kitchen is a nice place with food.

She probably likes you, too!

Have you tried playing with her? See if she wants to chase a string toy or something.

BurlingtonBertieFromBow · 31/08/2012 10:30

lol at ham

I do play with her, she has toys. She also gallops up and down the kitchen (she runs like a pig)

She was very affectionate this morning which was sweet
