Why does my cat act as if she has never seen her tail before?

She is 10, and every day without fail, around this time, she tumbles round herself chasing her tail.
She has just fallen off the patio doing it [ grin]

lol i dont know but one of my cats who mainly ignores his own tail suddenly decides its enemy number one and spends about half an hour trying to kill it great to hear that at 10 shes still playful

Does she make a noise while she is doing it?

I think that cats have wonderful imaginations, and that they are brilliant at pretending things are hunting prey, so they pretend that tails, balls, laces etc., are viable targets. Either that or they are just plain daft!

I don't know but I love that they do! One of our cats is a great enormous statuesque tabby, very composed and very elegant...until she a) gets stoned on cat mint and falls off the edge of the flower bed and b) chases her tail with wild abandon. She does the most hilarious thing where she rolls around on her bottom with her back legs wide apart frantically batting at her tail with her front paws. Makes me cry with laughter every time.
