It all seems to be going very well, slow introductions, mixing the smells, using feliway. Out sdult cat has recently lost his lifelong companion, and I very much want this new relationship to go smoothly. Any tips? Any mistakes I need to avoid? Thank you!

Hi lemonpie7

Didn't want your post to go without answer. A few days ago, another poster recommended some excellent leaflets produced by the ASPCA - but their site is experiencing a few technical difficulties right now so I'll post you a link to their guides as soon as possible.

Hope it's all going well so far anyway.

I have to say, I've only ever just stuck them together. The adult usually lets it known when it's bored.

And would you believe it, the ASPCA site has now come on line again after days out! Here's the guidance on adult cats.

But I have to say, in common with Technoviking, I've just stuck them together when it's a kitten. There seem to be different rules there. I've never known, in many years, an adult cat to attack a kitten. They might get tetchy and give them a quick biff (or walk away) if the kitten is being OTT but generally they're pretty tolerant.

PS - as a case in point. I remember when we were housing a little hussy with two small kittens in the greenhouse one summer. The local ginger tom (the biggest, most ornery, most ear-shredded beast you ever saw) used to come calling on her when he could get in to see her and I found him there one day with her two kittens virtually hanging off his nose and biting him. He said not a word - just sat there and took it.
