This morning she was coughing and has also had a sloppy bowel accident outside. She wasn't interested in breakfast even though I didn't come down until after 9 and she wasn't about when DH left at 7. He normally feeds her before he goes. I had to put the plate under her nose to get her to come and ear.

Her back legs are a bit wobbly and I will take her for a jab on Monday to hopefully get some relief. She didn't wee over night so that is postiive but when I was comforting her when she was coughing it really hit me that she is very old and isn't my baby anymore Sad.

She has lasted for DD's birthday but I am not sure she will make her own Sad.

I have just put a towel on the sofa for her to sit on, just in case, but she wasn't impressed and has jumped down on to the floor.

My cat is getting to the end of her life and I am not sure I will ever get over it Blush.

She means the world to me, is the only thing in the world that is 100% mine, and I will miss her so much.

I'm not pushing. I've been roughly where Just is many, many times. It's a hard place.

QueenofJacksDreams · 06/10/2012 22:32

Still stalking? She's not ready to go darling, Lots and lots of animals lose control over their bladders as they get older including humans! When my Nan's dog was at the end he just couldn't move at all he wouldn't even get up to greet you that's when we knew it was time same for MIL's dog just stopped and gave up.

FabCat isn't ready to go just yet she's just a grumpy old lady suffering the indignities of growing old without much grace. 18 years is amazing though I'm only 8 years older than her Grin Honestly she sounds wonderful. Don't let other people force your hand you know your cat and she trusts you she will let you know when she's ready.

JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 22:33

I feel the need to say I didn't argue when a vet said my little Robbie had to be put down and I was really loving towards him. FABCat means everything to me and no way would I ever want her to suffer just so that I can keep her with me.

Gourmet cat food?

Cozieseniorboy condescended to eat some Sheba this morning (I found a box at the back of the pantry.)

JustFabulous · 14/10/2012 16:51

Just stood in a wee puddle [fed up].

Vet tomorrow. Feel uneasy about FABCat having another jab as she has already had one more than the vet originally said she could have.

Just to recap, she has hypoestesia, kidney disease, breast cancer and arthritis. The first two things seem to be controlled okay with drugs.

Her problems - wees on the floor in her room almost every night for the last 10-14 days. Also wees in the house, mostly on things (a bag, my apron yesterday) so appears to be trying but can't manage a litter tray as she can't aim her back end due to the arthritis I assume.

She has been okay the last couple of days but has had trouble jumping up on to the sofa when it comes to getting her back end on the sofa.

I don't think it is time. She still eats, sunbathes, argues with me and washes herself but I know with the weeing the vet has run out of ideas. The capsules she has been on have had no effect.

Due to having a GA today I am not supposed to make any major decisions for the next couple of days but if FABCat needed to go DH would tell me.

Sorry for the long essay but can anyone please give me some advice?

When chatting to the nurse today about FABCat she said "move on" and it really upset me as it made me think what a wreck I will be when the time comes on and I am embarrassed.

You've had a GA ? Yourself? Dear goodness Girl. How are you?

JustFabulous · 15/10/2012 21:03

Yes, this morning. I am starting to feel sore now and I am really tired. DH has made me stay in bed since we got home and I am not good at doing nothing. FABCat came upstairs earlier. Not to see if I was okay, no no no, but to demand ask for her tea!

StarkAndDormyNight · 15/10/2012 21:20

Just found this thread and it has made me cry.

Please don't feel embarrassed that you will be a wreck when the time comes.

Of course some people won't get it but that's their problem. When you lose someone (or somecat) that you love you need to grieve.

And don't doubt yourself, you will know when the time has come.

For the wee, could you put down puppy training pads or is that no good with aiming issues etc?

Hope you are feeling ok following GA btw.

cozietoesie · 15/10/2012 21:25

I'll not ask more.

My uncle in law was a an x-ray technician. He deferred greatly to my Aunty (I'd have deferred to her on anything! She was that sort) but on two things he held adamant. Photos and anaesthetics. (His best colleague was an anaesthetist,) He advised me that the effects of a GA can last up to one week. (Which is why you get an automatic sign off for that time on pretty well any GA procedure.) So you feel normal - bit you aren't. Not at all.

Best of luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you and herself.

JustFabulous · 15/10/2012 21:31

DH has taken tomorrow off too but is going back to work on Wed. TBH I am terrified of driving (GA + new car = recipe for disaster) but have no choice as I can't walk the kids to school.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 15/10/2012 21:45

Don't drive. Seriously. Get a taxi. Uncle in law was very clear on that. You nay (just) get away with it but think if you hit someone because you're not 100%. Please don't try.

Wolfiefan · 15/10/2012 21:51

More fish for FAB? What about you? (not fish!) Lovely chocs? Run a bath?
You sound like you've been through the wringer. Just read your Saturday post 10:30ish. You are doing the best for your much loved pet. Keep strong and get well yourself.
(PS my grumpy, old, furry nightmare pooped in our en suite yesterday. On the bloody carpet! My next pet may well be a rock!?!)

JustFabulous · 16/10/2012 07:52

More wee this morning. Every night for the last 2 weeks and then 4 episodes before that since the 18th Sept.

I have told DH I am really worried about driving tomorrow and he just said we will see how I am. I think he must take the kids to school in the morning and I will try and pick them up. Less traffic at that time of day, more time to take it steady and more time I will have rested. I am concerned it could invalidate my insurance if I drive too soon. The nurse said Wednesday would be okay but I am going by how I feel.

I am glad DH is coming to the vet with me.

I couldn't sleep last night and feel exhausted already. Just waved kids off to school.

Not sure what to say about the vet visit.

She has had an antibiotic injection and an anti-inflammatory one.

The vet has taken urine and blood to check for infection and for how her kidneys are doing. She has weed every day for the last 2 weeks and it is obviously getting worse as she is doing it in the day too some times. Is currently ripping up the newspaper after asking DH to feed her.

She has some paste to put in her food, B12 vitamins, to help with the kidneys and the fact she seems to have developed pica.

Results tomorrow. I am scared what they will say.

Hey sweetie, thinking of you both today hope that the fabfighter is ok Smile

JustFabulous · 17/10/2012 15:00

Vet just called.

Her kidneys are stable Smile. Her wee is very diluted though. Basically she is drinking loads as it is mostly going straight through as the kidneys aren't doing what they should be but on the whole it is okay.

Her urine sample has thrown up something unusual so it has been sent to the lab for further checking and I am just waiting now to see what is going on.

I feel so sorry for my vet. He is lovely but it must be awful when he has to ring me with bad news.

FABCat is oblivious and is currently having a wash next to me on the sofa.

I am not well atm as a result of the GA I think so hoping for no bad news.

OP posts:
QueenofNightmares · 17/10/2012 19:53

Great news that her kidneys are stable I'm really happy to hear that Smile Hopefully its something nice and simple like a UTI that's coming up in her urine as shes obviously not hurting I really don't think Fabcat sounds the sort of cat to keep quiet when miserable/hurting.

Hope you feel better soon, look after yourself.

JustFabulous · 17/10/2012 21:15

Test was fine! Grin
