Cat flap - need an upgrade?

We are going to have to change our cat flap as we have been invaded a couple of times recently by a new cat to the area. Water pistol doesn't seem to have put the new cat off coming in at all times of the day to sleep, eat and spray.

On line reviews for both the magnetic and infra red cat flaps seem to suggest that they can be noisy and expensive for replacement collars and that the flaps can be forced open relatively easily.

Has anyone experience of the cat flaps that work by scanning idntichips? If they work without too many cons then I am happy to pay the price.

We have a sureflap which is microchip activated and it is great. We've got 2 cats and it works brilliantly. The only hiccup was that our door is lined with metal so the flap didn't work at first. I phoned sureflap and they sent a flap adapted to suit a metal door to me and this has been perfect. Great customer service!

Thanks LetLoveRule, that's uesful information to know. Not too sure what our door is lined with but I'm sure that if I take off the old cat flap I'll find out.

Sure flap the best investment I ever made much more robust than any other cat flap. The only problem that mobile mop (dog) gets it muddy so I have to clean it regularly so it keeps letting the cats in.

We have a Sureflap, had it about 4 years now, it's great.
