sucky cats. is it very wrong?

Kittin has given up trying to suck humans because he has enormous enthusiastic claws which make humans shriek a bit.

Instead he sucks his tail.

Dr Google tells me it is a symptom of behaviour problems. Is it?. Its very cute but a bit soggy.

I've had cats that did this. They were just loving, nice cats. Didn't think there was anything wrong with it tbh.

I think it's when they haven't been mothered well or long enough and it's a kind of self-comfort. Kind of , plenty of handling and love.

How about getting him ( a safe non-toxic) soft toy? Kittin sound lufferly.

I got mine a sheepskin cushiony thing. He didn't seem disturbed.

We got him at 8 weeks (5 months now) when his mum kept beating him up. He is luffly and my most favoutite thing in the world. He has toys (quite a lot ) but just likes to get nuzzly and sucky. His claws are massive though and spikey.

Oh how sad, I'm so glad he has a good home. Kitten-abuse, who knew, must happen in all the species. Poor baby.

I've heard it lack of salt when they suck fingers (they want the sweat)

We had a cat who sucked blankets:) I think some are just more oral than others..like children who suck their thumbs:)

My cat tries to suck my ear

They were separated from their mother before they were ready if they do this. Poor sausages.

Both of my female cats do this, it is meant to be a sign of not totally happy cats but my two seem mostly fine.
I did have a tabby who showed a lot more neuroses than just suckling but she was a lovely cat despite them.

My cat is over 2 now, and yes I think he was weaned too early. He does it when he comes and sits on my lap - he jumps off when he's finished! Or if I come in from work and I give him some attention.

He seems quite happy otherwise though.

Suprised the vet though when she checked him over and came across a large nipple on him!

My cat likes to suck fleecy dressing gowns. Makes a beeline for anyone wearing one.

One of mine sucked fleecy dressing gowns for a while. He even once sucked my diamond pendant. He's now 21/2 and still affectionate but quite well balanced and very happy. So don't worry too much.

My big soppy 8 year old cat still does this especially when i have the fleece blankets over me and has done since we got him as a tiny kitten.
We were told he was 7 weeks old when we got him but when he went to the vets for his vaccinations vet said he was at least 2 weeks younger so would have actually been 5 weeks old!!

So i do think it is a comfort thing being by seperated too young from his mum.

He is a happy well adjusted cat but is a huge ginger maine coon looky likey who weighs an absolute tonne so to have him lying on your chest/boobs can be a tad uncomfortable!!!!

One of my cats would try and latch on to my nipple. She would slyly try and get down my top!! The first time she did it I was filming her because I was wondering what she was up to!

After that she would try any latch on anyones nipples or DP's medium sized mole

Wouldn't mind but she most definitely wasn't weaned early as we owned mum too! She fed for 6 bloody months!!

My cat has a penchant for my ears. it was cute when he was little, but now he's a big cat I stop him as it hurts! He nuzzles my neck in the hope of getting a quick go on the old lobes!
