Cat and Dog cutlery

There may be an obvious answer to this question but here goes.
What do people use to get the cat or dog food out of the tin.?
I dont like using old cutlery and putting it through the dishwasher.I know I can hand wash it.
And tried using plastic cutlery but they are never very strong.
So are there any alternatives please?

Get some of those antiseptic wipe things, use those to clean cat/dog food-only cutlery.

amillionyears · 16/07/2012 18:59

Thanks for that idea.Hadnt thought about doing that.

Use pouches and just plop it in the cats dish.

GobblersKnob · 16/07/2012 19:07

Wikos do plastic cat and dog forks that are shaped on one side to help got the food out of the tin. They are pretty thick and strong.

Mine just get washed up in the bowl with our stuff, as do the dogs bowls and the rats too Grin

Have bought pouches in the past, but they seemed quite expensive.Perhaps worth a relook.

GobblersKnob, Shock at last paragraph!
First paragraph is much more to my taste what I thought might exist but I have not seen.

Aldi pouches. The vet complimented me on his coat. Proud.

issey6cats · 16/07/2012 21:33

call me slutty if you like but i grab the first fork that comes out of the cutlery drawer and use that then it gets washed up with all the others ive used for our food, after all the cat hasnt actually eaten out of the tin so its just cooked meat and cereals, hasten to add i do wash thier bowls seperately cos they have eaten out of them

GetOrfMoiiLand · 16/07/2012 21:35

I have two special cat forks - they are specially marked, are washed separately and are kept in a different drawer to the rest of the cutlery.

I wouldn't be able to use normal forks for cat food, dear god no.

amillionyears · 16/07/2012 22:02

see this is partly where I am confused.
I cant decide whether i am being fussy by wanting seperate cutlery or not.
I dont think I am,or am I?
I cant decide whether cat food is awful for humans or no problem at all.
Havent googled cat food or dog food,or looked at labels.perhaps I should.

Not wanting to use human cutlery on fresh pet food straight out of the can or bag is irrational, though understandable. It might not be appetising or nutritionally good for people, but it's not unhygienic.

Not washing pets' bowls in with people stuff is more rational - I know what my cats do with their mouths when they're not using them to eat with.

PlumpDogPillionaire · 16/07/2012 22:17

Irrational, Dont? Do remember BSE, by any chance?

amillionyears · 16/07/2012 22:19

My concern is that we do not know what is in it.I have just been and looked at the back of a cat tin and it says basically meat and fish deriviatives.
I suppose I am thinking back to was it CJD? that was caused by mad cow disease that was caused by deriviatives? And that stuff could be in cat food?
So my perhaps irrational thoughts are that occasionally I do allow the cutlery through, and that may be harmful to my health in 20 years???
Am beginning to feel I will use pouches, wilko cutlery, and maybe wipes.

x post with Plump.Have now got completely confused by CJD,mad cow disease and BSE.

PlumpDogPillionaire · 16/07/2012 22:26

CJD/BSE - perhaps I'm confused...
I do know that whatever the thing Blush was, it wasn't always destroyed by dishwasher heat/detergent.
I just think it's best to keep petfood cutlery completely separate from human-use cutlery - including washing, cloths for washing, etc.

oopslateagain · 16/07/2012 22:27

I have a Wilko's cat spoon in my cutlery drawer. It lives there so my mum people think the rest of the cutlery is safe. I actually use whatever knife fork or spoon I can grab first, the food is from a tin and perfectly safe. The used cutlery goes in the washing up with the rest of my stuff.

The cat bowls go in to wash separately. They are rank.
