secret water drinker...:)

our cat has got into the habit of sipping or lapping madly water out of a glass, any glass, mug etc. she seems to want to help herself to our water even if she has just had a drink of her own. i have a mug of water by the side of the bed at night and keep being woken up by her with her head stuffed in my mug :D, she also keeps waking dh up with the sound of her knocking over his large pint glass of water. infact NO glass or mug of water is safer from old snoopy draws, i have to put a heavy book over the top if i am at my laptop working as i have a glass usually by the side, she likes to jump up, sit on the keypad and have a drink from my glass. tbh i find it really heart warming although dh is strict and doesn't like it, i think it is funny :-D

That is funny. The reason is water from the tap tastes chemically, and if you let is sit for a while the taste and smell go away. I bet she also drinks from the mouldy bird bath, yes?

bitofcheese · 15/07/2012 20:39

nah, she is too lazy to jump up plus i clean the bird bath out!! i love it when she sticks her head in the glass, right in too, her tongue is fascinating to watch..

one of mine biscuit caught him red pawed yesterday with his head in the toilet drinking dont know why he does this when there is a cat bowl of water less than two feet from the loo, and no i dont use any chemicals to clean the loo because i know the cats drink out of there i use a scourer and elbow grease to keep it clean

AngelsWithSilverWings · 15/07/2012 21:18

Mine do this too.I have to take a sports bottle to bed otherwise they steal my bedside water and knock the glass over.

Lately they have been trying to drink my coffee in the morning - I can't put it down for a second without them sticking their faces in and lapping it - so annoying!

They have also started jumping on the bathroom sink and asking me to turn the tap on so that they can drink straight from it.

bitofcheese · 15/07/2012 21:30

not quite the same buy my cat scratches at the door when i am 'on the purch' (our loo is in the bathroom, not separate). i eventually let her in for some peace and quiet but THEN she jumps up and sits on the cistern then jumps into the sink then into the bath.........bloody hell fire, maniac but fun

we call our cat the Toilet Monitor and we reckon she has a clipboard - whenever you come out the loo she's sitting outside looking at you, and often will stick a paw under the door for good measure.

when we come out we tell her what we did...'just a wee Tigger'....so she can mark it down.

keeps us amused.....

caught her with her head in my water glass just once in the night....never did it again. v odd.

One of ours likes a cup of tea
Milk no sugar

Mine drinks from cups and toilets. I use chemicals in the loo, if she smells them she waits till they're gone.

gingerpig · 17/07/2012 18:47

mine drinks water from glasses too. if he can't reach, he sticks his paw in to see where the water is, and then shakes it all over me!

bitofcheese · 17/07/2012 19:03

different thing but mine likes to jump up and look into the bath when i am relaxing lying down in it, gives me a jump everytime she does it, suddenly these two front paws appear then a head pops up...really cute though. and mine also ALWAYS sits bolt upright looking up at me when i open the bathroom door, she insists on coming in when i am on the throne, no privacy :)

Mine do the bath thing too!

soaccidentprone · 17/07/2012 19:17

Mine drinks out of the bath. He like me to put the plug in a run some water in which he then drinks. He also does the drinking out of glasses etc. Cat across the road (who kind of lives with us) tried to fall in the bath last week. He was walking along the edge of the bath which has just been run and his back legs slipped in. He then glared at me as though it was my fault!

BerthaKitt · 21/07/2012 21:14

One of my cats used to always steal drinks out of our water glasses. She hasn't done it though since I gave the mogs their very own glass of water in the hallway (refreshed daily of course). Cats don't like drinking out of plastic bowls; glass or china containers (e.g. cereal bowl) are what they prefer!

Tiago · 21/07/2012 21:21

Both of mine prefer to drink from the glasses of water by our bed. Regardless of the numerous bowls of water lying around the house, they will always head for the bedroom...

Catsmamma · 21/07/2012 21:21

All three of my cats like to do Bathroom Monitor Duties....thankfully not all at the same time..it is rare for anyone to manage to get in and out without one of them appearing.
They get cross when the inlaws are here and have the audacity to close the door in their little pussy faces.

And I know someone is drinking my bedside water and Reuben (on profile) adores coffee, cannot put one down without him noseying over for a taste.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/07/2012 11:03

Mine just dips his nose in a glass. He doesnt actually drink it he just wants to claim it as his own.

If hes bored he knocks the glass over cos it's just so funny to play in puddles.
