Oh god frontline has stopped working, what next?

I did see a thread ages ago about this, can't find it now.

I frontlined them all last week, just saw a flea on one of the cats.

Bloody hell frontline was perfect. Can anyone recommend anything?

haven't seen any hopping fleas in the house, do I need to worry? I don't have any carpets, do they live in floorboards?

Do you need a prescription to buy the arresting collar online?

Becky2011 · 08/07/2012 15:56

Oh yes, just looked & I see you do. Cricky they cost 25 quid!

Sorry op to hijack. I meant seresto collar (not arresring). Have just found for 18 pounds. I will go away now :)

Frontline never worked for us - we use Stronghold, and just pop into the vets and ask to buy some. We don't have to take all the cats, or indeed take them at all- though of course they have all been seen by the vet at some point.

With Stronghold, we never have fleas, and one of our former cats was crawling with them despite all measures before we used it

Effipro is cheaper than frontline and just as good,
Plus, you get 4 in a pack for less than a tenner:

We have Seresto collars on our two - big cost up front, but provided they don't lose them it's definitely an investment. I think they've been on two months now, and even the collar-losing-master-monkey himself hasn't lost his - they ARE supposed to be safe and loosen or snap under enough pressure. Monkey-boy is allergic to fleas so even a single bite is bad news for him, no sign of anything since we put them on, and he seems to be getting better (ie less bald).

We have 2 cats who are frontlined religiously but they still brought fleas into the house. We have permethrin bombed everywhere and sprayed rugs, carpets, sofa and beds with indorex, but although the population has definitely gone down, a few of the little buggers are still hopping about! We are now trying advantage- fingers crossed it works.

I live in the US and we don't have the Seresto collar available here - or Advocate. I can buy the collar through Amazon, but I have to pay $35 for shipping) but is it worth it? Does it really work? My other option is Revolution -- Frontline and Advantage stopped working on my cats. BTW My cats have active fleas on them right now, even though I applied Frontline two weeks ago, so the collar would have to deal with animals already infested with active fleas.

Thanks,
Susan

Advantage is effective and can be bought on line from Vets UK, never had a problem with it (other than when I missed a month and used something from the petshop, resulting in an infestation from hell). Sadly fleas love floorboards because it gives them lots of dark places to lurk in and fleas love dark places!

We're another household that uses the programme injection - its an absolute Godsend & lasts longer than they tell you too - you'll still need to treat the coat for the first few weeks, but by that time alll the nasty little buggers will besterilised - no more baby fleas - problem solved IME for a year at least - we love it, saves us a fortune & saves the poor kitties loads of stress :)

Sibenjam · 17/07/2012 15:02

In the US I don't have the injection option either. Since Frontline and Advantage don't work on my cats ( my vet says it's because they are grooming obsessively and licking it off. My choices are to buy the Seresto Collar off Amazon and pay an exorbitant price on shipping, or to try Revolution, which supposedly they can't lick off. Anybody have any experience with either of these two products? Any advice? Thanks! If you're uncomfortable posting your answer here, feel free to send me a private message.
