You need to clean it with hot water and bio washing powder, anything with bleach or disinfectanct smells like wee to them so they do it in that spot again.

He could have a bladder cystitis or he might just not like sharing a tray, I think it's meant to be one tray per cat plus one spare

Reasons... might be cystitis, worth getting a urine sample to the vet if you can. Lack of clean litter tray - his standards might be a lot higher than yours and the PP is right that he might not want to share trays. Stress can cause them to pee in the wrong place too.

It's actually wise to limit him to one or two rooms until he's sorted things out. This will help him reduce his stress and regain his 'territory' in the house. I'm assuming he's neutered? If not, that'll explain things.

You need to clean it with something that will breakdown the enzymes, so a product like Urine-Off or Simple Solution. This way, they can't smell it and wont be tempted to go in the same spot.

If you have had the cat for a long time, and there have been no life changes, then you need to take them to a vet as this is a sign of infection.

i think i will try getting another tray then and hope prevents any further problems
