Possibly Poorly Kitten :(

I don;t seem to be doing too well with kittens, this is my 3rd kitten and we have only had him a week (we also have another kitten, but had to have her sister PTS after only a week) He is about 13 weeks old, has had his vaccinations, and isn't allowed outside yet. He is normally very active, charging round the house, fighting with his adopted sister and eating loads. This morning he didn't eat much breakfast and then for the rest of the time when I have been at home he has just slept, he is happy to be stroked and can walk so no fighting injuries that I can tell. He just doesn't want to eat or drink even though I have put him in front of it. He has not had any loose stools as yet.

I have an appointment in the morning at the vets, but I just wondered if anyone else had experinced anything like this?

I am also worried as this is what the last kitten started being like (but she also have very loose stools), could there be something in the house that is effecting them? We have not got any other pets.

Any thoughts anyone?

Most likely just an 'off' day. Make sure you're not overfeeding - they can get big problems from having big meals. All bunged up etc and ill. Is he peeing? Male cats can be more prone to cystitis/blockages, especially if on a dried food only diet, and it can get very serious quite quickly. So ensure he's still peeing.

Might be worth looking at things in his environment. You don't have any plants that might be poisonous? Even things like plug in air freshners can throw a sensitive cat off colour.

You had 1 kitten pts .... Did you get a definite diagnosis of something that would make you think it was something in the house?

Was it poisoning? Or was it an accident or an illness?

I ask because I lost my previous kitten to an incurable illness, and waited a few weeks before having other kittens in the house (and was paranoid for the first weeks too Blush) but my new kittens seem fine and are now nearly 12 weeks (we got them just before 6 weeks as the "breeder" had already rehomed the rest of the litter and it was take them or lose them)....

Aldo, where did you get him from? Had he shown any signs of illness? And what other cats had he mixed with?

how long ago did he have his vacs? Could it be a reaction to that?

Sorry if it seems like lots of qs but you need to consider all possibilities...

Thank you for the responses, he is actually slightly better in himself today and we think he has hurt his hip (fighting or jumping) and is just nursing the damage.

We didn't get a defianet diagnosis for the ill kitten but the vet thought it was feline panleukopenia / infectious enteritis, but as she was so small there was no way of really knowing, she died at the end of April, so there has been enough time and he has had his imms (had his 2nd ones last thur). I am happier now that I don't think he is ill, just feeling sorry for himself.

I am going to keep an eye on his hip and if it dosen't improve (he can still run around) I will take him to the vets next week.

I am just a worrier, especially after losing a kitten so recently!

Glad to hear he sounds a bit better....

I know how it feels to worry too as we lost our kitten to FIP, and I spent days bleaching everything I could, throwing things out and washing things multiple times before new kittens came in the house... my DD and DS were getting worried I'd bleach them too if they sat still for too long BlushGrin

I am only just beginnning to relax now we've had our new kittens for 6 weeks and everything seems ok.... I worried about them far more than I did when bringing home newborn DS and DD Wink
