urinary tract disease

Having forked out for emergency operation for unblocking my cats bladder, I now find that he has been put on a special diet of food (only available from the vet), this is to remove the build up of crystals in his urine. Honestly, it would be cheaper to feed him on poached salmon and steak. Can anyone recommend alternatives to the vet prescribed diet. this is doubly expensive for us as we have two cats and they both have to have the same food as it would be impossible to monitor two different feeding regimes.

Depending on which food it is you can buy it online often cheaper. Depending on which crystal is involved if you are dissolving cyrstals still in the bladder it is important to stay on this food till all these crystals are gone or you could have another blockage. Once you have a urine sample clear of crystals there are other options to look at.
