Cat has a head injury

My male tabby aged approx 15 yrs has been missing for a few days. He's refused to come in for the past two days so I've fed him outside - he's hidden himself in a bush. Today he came in and he has a nasty head wound. I've been able to clean it with salt water and there are distinct puncture wounds, but the bugger has escaped. He was a feral kitten when we first homed him. I am the only one ever to have picked him up, and this is only allowed on rare occasions. He let me do this tonight before I cleaned his head - he must be in pain.

I think I just want reassurance because I will take him to the vet when I catch him again. Sad

Check under his chin. I had this happen with my cat and when I took him to the vets that's the first thing the vet checked and there was an identical wound there. Cat was fine, just had a clean and some antibiotics... something had bitten him dog/fox vet wasn't sure.

P.s hope he's ok.

I was stroking his chin before I noticed the nasty gummy head. (It was dark when he snuggled up to me). His other ear has a big, big scab on the inside. Whatever animal has bitten him has possibly picked him up by his head. He's not wary of our border collie - no more than an ex-feral cat is usually wary anyway, so I'm guessing it could be a fox or another dog.
