Elderly housetrained cat having accidents

In short, my cat, aged around 15 I think (I rehomed her so we're not entirely sure of her age) has just started weeing and pooing indoors, on the carpet, in the bathroom, kitchen and the living room. She's previously been perfectly happy to go outdoors and this is out of character.

I've put out a litter tray but any idea why she's suddenly doing this? I have a toddler so really keen to nip this in the bud before she scoops up a poo!

It could be confusion/dementia due to her age. My cat started to do this when he got old, he simply forgot what he was supposed to do.
It could be bowel/bladder problem though, so I'd take her to a vets for a check up to be on the safe side.
