When to let out...

I have a 7 month old kitten. I am dreadfully afraid of letting her out as my last kitten disappeared at a year old, never to be seen again Sad

My kitten has been spayed and chipped and is obviously interested in going out - but how on earth will she find her way back????

How have you all done it??? Thank you in advance

Tea had the blackbird adopted the cuckoo then? Do they DO that?

I let mine out into the back garden to start with, then when they find thier own way round to the front and seem comfortable doing it I let them out there too.

TheHouse OnTheCorner - cuckoos sneak eggs in other nests....so the blackbird thought it was one of its own.
'The Common Cuckoo lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. At the appropriate moment, the hen cuckoo flies down to the host's nest, pushes one egg out, lays an egg and flies off. A female may visit up to 50 nests during a breeding season.' wikipedia.

Well the little beggars! And how daft are the other birds not noticing! I could stick the egg of a velocoraptor in with the blackbirds and they'd not be any the wiser!
