Foreign cats coming thru the cat flap!!

Anyone with any good ideas appreciated! Our cat is a small docile female. Twice now she has been followed into the house by neighbourhood cats. I've chased them/thrown water on them but soon maternity leave will be ending (and we are away next week!) and there are both other cats out there and these two seem persistent.

Any ideas on how to discourage foreign cats?!?

Tsk. Those foreign cats. Coming over here, stealing our jobs ...

Am cat, must travel! Wink

Get one of those catflaps where your cat has to wear a collar with an activation thingy on it, so other cats can't enter?

Desperate2012 · 27/04/2012 10:26

Hi Heath, that's our backup plan, however our cat is Houdini and gets any collar off Angry

How about a Microchip Cat Flap?
Apparently it works on your cat's existing microchip (assuming she has one) and it doesn't need a collar.

Agree with HeathRobinson.

We have a Sureflap cat flap and it is brilliant. Have never had a foreign cat in the house and our cat regularly makes a dash for the flap to escape a conflict situation. He is rather a wuss though!

Got the microchip flap today, all scanned and ready for DH questionable DIY skills. Thanks, didn't even know they existed!

Best of luck - microchipping flaps are the way to go, in fact I think humans should be microchipped too, just think: you need never lose your house keys again!

BobbieSox · 27/04/2012 20:58

I have the same problem, so pleased to have stumbled on this thread, thanks!

Desperate2012 · 29/04/2012 20:20

Although it's a bugger to set up and we still haven't succeeded Angry

What kind did you get? Ours is Sureflap, if it's that I might be able to help ... IIRC it was pretty easy on the electronics side of things, though fitting it was another matter (DH and I also have highly questionable DIY skills).

I had this problem with a tomcat that regularly broke into our house. It sprayed everywhere when we were on holiday and the smell was just horrendous. I saved up and bought the SureFlap Microchip one and had the cats microchipped. Had a bit of hit and miss though as the other night the bastard tom cat had managed somehow to get into the house and I found it trapped in the utility. I had to stop myself from killing it on the spot (that is how stressed this awful creature has pushed me).

Just read the set up instrcutions VERY carefully and ensure it is not still learning every little fuckers micro chip details after it has learnt yours.

And breathe Grin

We heard a cat come into our house the other night, our cat was on the bed with us so we knew it wasnt him. He had a "wtf was that" look on his face and was about to go down to kick off when the other cat must have gone back out again.

I can imagine the other cat thinking oh bugger this isnt my house and I've got to go out in the rain again.

We got a petporte and it is a bugger!!! Poor girl is trapped in for the week we are away instead, as although we got it scanned for her it never unlocked when she approached it. Angry
